Boosting up to 30psi?
OK, when I first got the car, it was only boosting at 14psi and stayed there whenever I got on it. After installing a new clutch and putting everything back together, I got confused with vacuum lines so I decided to leave them be and I started boosting up to 20psi. After about 2 weeks, I decided to finally fix the vacuum lines today. I finally connected the tube from the valve cover to the intake and plugged 2 vacuum lines that are connected to the wastegate and something else that's around the turbo area. After doing all this, I was only boosting up to 12psi. I decided to unplug the lines and leave them open and now, I'm boosting all the way up to 30psi!
Long story short, is this safe at all? My friend told me there used to been a boost controller there but now there isn't and the tubes are just there, dangling in the engine bay. Another friend told me this boost is just too high for the turbo itself and it might blow up if I get on it too much. Turbo is, I think stock Evo 8. I can take pictures of my tube setup if requested if anyone is confused.

ya definately not safe...if not tuned for that...or have a built motor to handle that kind of boost...better get a boost controller asap...or hook up to the stock boost control solenoid...

OK, I'm going to plug the tubes back up and wait until I get money for a boost controller. Rather run 12psi then 30psi right now. What would be better? An MBC or EBC? An MBC would be cheaper and I can get those faster but I wouldn't know what boost I'll be at until I get on it and EBC would take me a while to get since I'm currently broke. I don't have the stock controller so that's out of the question. What would be good controllers that I can grab and anyone is currently using right now?
some advice, stop doing things to your car untill you know what you are doing. you basically removed all boost control by leaving the lines disconnected and your wastegate didnt open. you are lucky you didnt throw a rod though the block.
and get a mbc asap.

oh no another f&f movie quote thread! To OP- take your car to a shop (stay out of boost) have them install a Hallman MBC before you blow your motor... and even then have a tune that best suites your turbo/fuel you are running, 30psi on pump alone is not safe

OK, my friend (not the first one that did this) decided to give the vacuum lines a shot. What we did was connect the intake line to the wastegate/turbo line and it works. Boost is now at 20psi. No Solenoid or anything in between.
Now, anyone know what'll happen if I leave it without the stock solenoid or even a boost controller? So far, it's at 20psi and stays there.
