Smile Hayward & Scott exhaust installed

This is the prototype unit H&S made for our USDM EVO. It comes with longer exhaust tip and an O2 sensor bung for our O2 sensor.

The fitment is just perfect. Everything bolts right up. I had to get new gaskets for the test pipe but I can re-use the old one for the muffler. The sound is just perfect. I knew from the beginning that this exhaust would sound sweet coming from a former owner of Scoobysport exhaust. But man, This thing is just amazing.

I'll have some video clips ready to be uploading and I'll let you all be your own judge when you hear it.

Some background info for the dyno.

* My car was bone stock.
* Dyno was done on a Dynojet AWD Dyno.
* All dyno runs were done in the same day using 93 Octane.
* Temp is about 75 degree on the baseline line run and about 85 degree for both Catback and Turboback runs.

Baseline: 236.7hp and 238.4 ft-lbs of torque.
Catback: 246.8hp and 248.6 ft-lbs of torque.
Turboback: 257.3hp and 258.5 ft-lbs of torque.

BTW, I was very surprise to see 10 ft/lbs gains from a catback only.

Looks great, can't wait for the sound clips etc. I presume it's 3" turboback? Stock cat or test pipe?

Actually it's a 2.5" system.

No, I don't think so. This is what XTREME (formerly known as Ralliart UK) use on their car.

http://www.ralliartuk.com

Hayward & Scott built the exhaust system on Tommi Makinen's Ralliart WRC car.

The turbo spool up around 3250-3300 rpm right now and just pulls hard to red line.

Your're probably talking about the downpipe. The downpipe is 3" and cones to 2.5" just before it reaches the cat pipe.

lol, come on man I don't need a 6" tip. I had a Rx-7 putting out well over 400 hp with a 3" tip. Also Look at how good this thing is made, not a POS at all.

it's NOT a POS... i know that the construction and design of the H&A is "da bomb", but the tip does not fit in the cutout well at all...

looks "weak"...?

Given the stock configuration this doesn't look right, not wrong but it just doesn't seem to fit.

Is there a pinch bend at the muffler inlet?

Well, you can always have a 4" tip put on the can if you don't like the 3" tip.

And whiterexman, you should not be supprised to see 10 ft/lbs and 10whp from the catback. I got the same from just an axle back. getting rid of the factory muffler is worth about 8-10 whp and ft/lbs. my plot is here http://home.comcast.net/~bherrin2/stock-vs-axleback.jpg

I think once we get some more independant dyno test results folks will see that most catbacks only make about 10whp on a stock car and the down pipes add another 10 or so. I was doing some of my own developement and concluded that a 3" catback on a stock car with 2.5" or less pipe upstream actually looses a little power over staying at 2.5" with mandrel bends and an open muffler.

Bigger isn't always better, velocity and back pressure are the key and sometimes going bigger can reduce the velocity and increase back pressure.

I give the H&S two thumbs up!
