Alright here's your video:

First off this is a totally normal sound, every Evo makes it. Hell I bet every 4G63 makes it.

My theory? It's the alternator and any hydraulic systems pumping, basically any belt-driven device. Anyone think the same? I don't know for sure.

My 2002 Lancer OZ makes it, then again, I am running a lot of power in my car, sounds like an electric whine... I asked about it a while back, sounds like my car is supercharged when I accel. I dont know =/

Well note that these are two distinctly different sounds: one is the gears in the tranny heard only while the car is moving and in gear, and the 2nd is a whine under the hood, heard whilst revving or otherwise putting a load on the engine.

webguy,

So your evo makes the same noise??
My was loud enough that I can hear it over engine/tranny/turbo
under 3000 rpm... and it's louder in 1,2,3rd gears...

I actually made an appointment with dealer.. they are cool for
me to just come in for the noise..
I hope they will just slap me and tell me that I'm being paranoid...
hahaha..

Yeah mine does the same thing. It's super loud when the engine is cold. Once everything warms up it's not that noticeable anymore.

I have a strange noise recently as well. It's a high-pitched whistle, it almost sounds like the turbo spooling down but I hear it below 3000rpms and mainly during idle when I rev the engine. What could be a possible cause? I rev it and then around 1500rpms it sounds like the turbo is spooling. It just seems to have that turbo whistle. It's strange, any ideas? I appreciate it.

isn't it just the noise of the air flowing through the intercoolers?

you guys are funny...the 4g63 just gets louder and louder the more miles it gets on it...you're gonna be sad as hell at 75,000 miles if you still have this car...my DSM was like a sewing machine/motorcycle/hydraulic pump at 80,000 our engines are just noisy, get used to it!

It happens decelerate or accelerate... it's not really loud that I
really dont remember having it before... I can hear it best right

exhaust and turbo spooling (that whistling noise)...

I have 1200 miles.. no major mods except

cusco oil catch can,
blitz dtt turbo timer,
grounding wires...
I just recently got the whining noise at 26,000 miles. Did you ever take your car into the dealer to get it checked out? If so,,,was it fixed?
