Coolant temp gauge?? goin crazy

I will keep this simple.

It did this before and started again tonight when i was the track. it was fine all my runs but my last. anyways, the coolant temp gauge goes up above the H then back down then up again and down and up and down and so on, sometimes it will stay up above the H for long periods of time. on the aem it says its fine at like 178-185 so i dunno what could be up.

i did have a cage installed and pressed through the dash so maybe something got cut or loosened like a ground wire.

any ideas from anyone would be awesome!

thanks and cheers!

Did you remove the dash clusters at any point?
Like you said the wires do come loose, so check for any loose wires.

Sounds like your thermostat/temp sensor is going out.

I'm sure the cluster came out during the cage install and after that I just don't remember because its been so long. Is there a way to check that temp sensor or should I just take one out of another evo and see if it works?

Thanks!

No the aem isn't wrong. I mean think about it, how could the needle go from below half to above the h then back down below half that fast... Water and the engine both don't heat nore do they cool that fast.

You most likely have an air bubble in your cooling system. Is your overflow tank empty?

Fill your overflow tank back up and give your car a good drive varying the engine RPM's to hopefully burp and fill the system.
