Wow. After posting, I FULLY read this and it's about the same thing I'm experiencing. I was actually following all my vaccuum lines and going to replace them and check piping. My CEL came on and stayed solid. I noticed it knocked before it stayed solid and that's when I parked it. I haven't checked injectors or plugs yet, but that's next. Have we not found the solution yet?

How did you do the balance belt without removing the crank timing plate? Or does this car not have balance shafts anymore?

Ok if you dont remove the crank timing plate you remove the CAS. Its one or the other. If this happened after the timing belt job I agree that its only something affected by it. Try replacing the CAS and see what happens.

if u changed the timing belt id say u must either be off a tooth or the crank sensor maybe was damaged or somethin during reinstallation.....also would double check the spark plug gap, and make sure the plug wires are reinstalled properly....bein that u had a rich condition i would double check since u have access to a scanner, check the air temp n see what its readin, my air temp sensor on mine is reading 107 * and its about 60* outside rigth now....good luck keep us posted.

little late... we never did figure out what it was. wasn't the timing belts (as if you read carefully i said we double checked that). after a few days of driving it, it just seemed to go away. possibly a bad tank of gas...
