if your burning access oil it can mean the shaft bearings/seals are leaking which could mean the bearings are shot meaning a non constistant running/ spooling turbo.

blue smoke all the time, not black. oil dripping out of the exhaust when starting, oil anywhere. if you have bad piston rings it would do the same as well you can remove your intake piping off the turbo and check for shaft play aswell.

There are several reasons you could not be getting your expected boost curve, what are you using to control boost ?

(1) Stock BCS and boost profile -- sounds 100% stock to me
(2) Boost leak - you will be testing...
(2) hotter weather
(3) blown turbo - unlikely

Your boost curve sounds like the stock boost - factory BCS, etc. If so, you are fine. If you want more boost / power - read about tuning and boost management in the ECUFlash section...

oh okay...no, i don't have any of that. the car never smokes, and there aren't any oil leaks. i thought you meant internal leaks that weren't easily spotted from outside the turbo/engine.

the car is 100% stock execpt for the catback. i don't want to tune or do anything until i get the car back to stock power levels again. i'll be checking for the boost leak as soon as i get a boost leak tester ordered. i'm still going to change the coils as well. i think it's just time. hopefully that helps.

Since you are 100% stock, your boost curve - 18psi tapering to ~13 psi seems spot on....You may have a small leak, but the factory boost profile is almost exactly as you describe...

the IX is supposed to peak at 20.1psi and be around 16psi at redline. it used to boost higher than it does now. my gague has always been a little off, but it's never dipped that low at redline before.

I read before that some of the newer Ixs had a different boost profile, one that was set lower to like 18psi

Aside from the various valid reasons which have already been advanced by others, it may be worth your while to look at the following possibilities: 1)Clogged stock catalytic convertor(Yikes, go to a test pipe!)? 2)Wimpy example of the MR DV(crush it!)? 3)Minimal amount of WG spring pressure(increase WG preload!)?

P.S. I find it reassuring that "the smokester"(AKA smokedmustang) has recovered from his harrowing accident(may God bless), and that my ex-archnemesis, cij911(may God bless) is also doing well, and contributing to this informative thread. Take care!

t bolt clamps are the evo's best friend. Get some samco silicone couplers and hoses and get rid of the crappy stock rubber pieces, they dry out and split. You can get some new vacuum lines from your local auto store.

Check out post #85 (useful pic) (I also found summitracing.com to have the most affordable tclamps)

it may possibly be burning oil due to its old age. a stock turbo with some decent miles isnt too hard to find. to buy of course
