Half of those failures were from people running crap fluid or the wrong viscosity. Good fluid such as the Amsoil MTG or Motul Gear 300 work great in the MR as thats what I use and am still going strong at 43k miles and plenty of track events with over 350whp. Yes its inevitable once you start doing serious road racing and have lots of power. A good tranny cooler will help and smart driving makes a difference. For 90% of the people on this site its fine...probably is the few that have had problems make it sound like its widespread plague of how bad the tranny is. Same thing goes for the GTR and many other cars.

Also take what you read with a grain of salt because half the people on this site get their statements from a friends friends dogs uncle cousins mechanic. Most have no experience with what they babble about. Find out what your goals are realistically and go from there.
I had the 6 speed, I was running an amsoil mtg cocktail at 75w85, I never road raced the car, the gear was heated up too many times and became brittle, it let go while doing a roll on in 4th gear.. I was running over 400ft/lbs of torque on the stock turbo. It let go at 45k.. 5th and 6th are equally as weak (narrow).. I loved the 6 speed while it lasted and still prefer it, but I would rather not break another.. Dogbox sounds awesome but I am sure it is well over 5 grand..

Why were you running a cocktail instead of strait MTG if you don't mind me asking? It covers the correct viscosity range from Amsoil so diluting it just causes the fluid to shear at a lower temperature. I highly doubt it was your case though seeing as you had a good amount of torque.

Also no I don't have a tranny cooler. If I start road racing more I will invest in one. One other thing is to leave the stock undertray on. Few people that have sensors have logged 20+ degree higher temps WITHOUT it on.

At least someone has pic to back it up. The 6sp is a great trans, just not at the higher power/torque level. All i'm saying is that it's more reliable to convert to built 5sp. But in the absence of that, a trans cooler would be a good option for a little bit, plus a good investment if your road racing.

Just my opinion

IMO if you plan on changing it...then just drive it until you break it (which probably won't happen) And THEN buy the new stuff.

sorry that was a typo, I was running a REDLINE cocktail for 75-85w, more importantly 85..
I have since switched to amsoil mtg on the 5 speed..

I have 53K on my 6-speed. Have run multiple 11.1 passes this year, running high 11.8 times all last year. This spring it made 432hp/395tq on a dyno dynamics with zero correction (500+hp dynojet).

I run stock diaqueen fluid for the 6 speed. Is this not a good fluid? I have had success with it so far.

the stock diaqueen fluid is the best fluid for this trans imo

Some people, like myself, experienced 2nd notchiness/grind with the OEM fluid. I have been using the Castrol SynTOrq LT that I sell since 12,000 miles. It's a full synthetic exact 75W-85 equivalent and the notchiness disappeared overnight. I now have 110,000 miles on my car without a hitch.

For some the OEM works great. For others, like myself, the Castrol was the solution.

LOL and here is Erik pitching the Mopar stuff!

It is cool to see your car run for 100k+ miles using the stuff though, good testimony to it!

Hey I get your guys' throttle body back soon - cant wait to put it on.

I'll be throwing a BBK on my car soon; hopefully I'll be pushing around 400whp/350trq so I'll see how my 6-speed holds up!

Im running syntorq LT as well. Its not necessarily mopar stuff, they just happen to rebrand it because they use it in the viper and NV4500 trans. Same thing with Chevy, they rebrand it too. Works great and the notchiness is gone for me as well.
