had exhaust leak. took exhaust mani. off and found this ::*pics*

hey guys

sooo..long story short,i had a really REALLY bad exhaust leak.Got a new gasket and took off the manifold today. While i was inspecting, i noticed that the two cylinders farthest from the cams are grinded down by the studs, and the other two are not..

i know,im confusing,so i took some pics;

two right cylinders:

.

left cylinders:

the second pic is where i had my leak.i also had a leak on the 'smoother side' as well, but not as bad.hopefully this new gasket will fix this?? is this right?

please help ASAP!

thanks

pj

Yea, you're not making much sense. The cylinders farthest from the cams? What?

Are you trying to say the 2 exhaust ports are larger on one side? Does it look/feel like it was ported on one side and not the other?

If anything( still a little confused) it seems as if the first picture is were there is not as big of a wall were the gasket is?? Is this what your talking about?

Edit: by wall I mean where it's raised off the block to put the gasket**

It doesnt look like there was any exhaust leak there. Follow the carbon and since the black is in the shape of the gasket you leak was probably somewhere else.

i see what he is talking about and that is crazy.
If you look at the casting on the runners where the manifold meets the head. You will notice the surface area on 2 runners are "ground down" per say and not sticking out as much.

Are you the orig owner of the car? I hope thats not a casting mistake by Mistu.
Looks like your manifold wasnt plane and instead of planing the flange, someone planed the head. lol

for the record, unless you cleaned the ports already, I dont see indication of an exhaust leak from those pics

...um...i never knew all ever heads were like this, in my eyes it would cause a major exhaust being that the manifold would sit cocked becuase of it not sitting on the lip do to it being ground off. Could you explain why all evo heads are like this??

and to the OP, i dont see any exhaust keak of any kind, when my mani cracked my whole head and block was covered in carbon, i think your leak is somehwre else.
