3 second holding of the gas pedal with key on and car off - turns on pump.

I just took it to mitsu.. cost me like 50 bucks.. And I dont have to worry about horror stories like this one!

In Canada taking an evo 8 or 9 to the dealership is not a good idea, they know less about your car than you do. My buddy is a parts guy at mitsu, and he can barely get me any parts for it

Ok, I didn't have to drop the subframe to remove the diff, but I did lower it an inch, so I didn't have to remove any lines phew!

How much play should be on this output shaft from the transmission to the transfer case? there is some play but it feels right for some reason, and everything moves pretty smoothly.

Pulled the diff apart, and these are the results, enjoy.

yeah that shaft wiggles normally. Don't worry about it.

and I'm not sure a rebuild is gonna do it.

OUCH!

fwiw - i went through shep to have my tc re-built w/ new ring&pinion and it cost me about $1500 as i sent him mine and everything else was usable.

Yours i'm not too sure about.....he can get ring/pinions but not sure about the rest of the internals w/ all that shrapnel circulating in there.

He was actually pretty quick w/o shipping i think he had mine done in about 4 days maybe even quicker.

Might be wise to look for a good used low mileage stocker if you don't care to build it.

we had a dealer in Yonkers bring us a MR with trans locked up. figured out timeline and what happened. before they delivered it they changed all fluids....used wrong fluid and locked trans.

sucks for them to have to eat that repair.. these things are picky with fluid.

good luck.

Haha thanks guys.

What do you mean you don't think a rebuild will do it greceiv?

I'm getting the Stage 2 rebuild done, along with the ring and pinioin. so the $995 service, plus the $1200 for ring, pinion and bearings. But I will send him mine and if he can't do it so be it, there are 2 for sale and I would send him one for the "whining tcase service" the $1500 service that Patrick B. was talking about.

But we will see!

And yes, these transfer cases require fluid. FYI.

Also, let me get this straight,
Diaqueen Super Multi 75-85 for the transmission (6 Speed)
Diaqueen LSD Hypoid for the Tcase
ATF SPIII for the ACD

with an 04 you have the 5 speed? They are much more robust, with the 6 speed I will use what the dealer says

goes by the model, all MR have 6spd. I know the 5spd is stronger then the 6, but from what ive read and seen on this forum, amsoil is better then mitsu fluid for both transmissions. for the tcase and diff the mitsu fluid is the most recommended though.

personally i use

mobil1 10w30 = motor
mitsu fluid = tcase/ diff
tranny = amsoil

You can always put the mitsu trans fluid in, and if you feel your shifting isn't up to par change it out for AMSOIL. Just do forum searches and you'll find the best answers.

btw make sure you have a pump and tube to get the fluid in the diff and tcase.. I just fill them up until they overflow. trans just takes 3qts..

I am oldschool with my funnel and tube system haha, it still works, just takes a while, then you have to drive around the block, come back and check again, and top up.

I will use whatever fluids Shep recommends me use, seeing as the transmission fluid does go into the tcase where the output shafts are.

Is this the right stuff guys? I want only OEM specified fluids.

Also, let me get this straight,
Diaqueen Super Multi 75-85 for the transmission (6 Speed) ?
Diaqueen LSD Hypoid for the Tcase (LSD Gear OIL SAE 90) ?
ATF SPIII for the ACD ?

I don't want to make this mistake again and will make sure all the proper fluids are in this time.
