ok i need to buy coolant hoses , samco sells evo 8 or evo 9 , arent they suppose to be the same for the evo , i ve seen other brands and they say evo8 or 9 , samco is the only one i saw with specific kits for 8 or 9 ... whats the difference ?????

 

Lower hose is different length

 

Evo 9 lower hose is shorter than that of the Evo 8. The upper rad hoses are of the same length.

Can the 8's lower hose be shortened to fit in a 9 application? Or is the bend in the wrong spot?

Reason I ask is that a vendor has the special color I want in stock for the 8 but not for the 9 and if it's a question of length only, then I see no problem in cutting the lower hose to fit.

Why not try other brands other than samco if they don't have your color?

 

he isnt trying to stretch it he wants to cut it but yea that shouldn't make any difference at all just make sure its a nice straight cut so you don't end up with the hose not fitting right.

Well gentlepeeps, I can now confirm that an Evo 8 kit will fit an Evo 9 if you trim about 6" off of the lower hose, where the neck meets the radiator. Keep the cut clean and it's a perfect fit.

The only reason I'm buying these is for the colorway, since I already have another brand's hose kit lying around and let's just say that urban camo looks way cooler in a red engine bay than orange does.

 

what if you have an evo 9 motor with a evo 8 rad? What actually changes the distance? Are the evo 8 and 9 rads different or is it the coolant neck on the motor in a different location?

 

The JDM 7 is pretty much identical to the USDM 8, the ECUs are very similar but the Evo 7 has different cat's and has the SAS for mild anti lag.

 

Coolant neck is longer on the 9 motor. It's 5-6 inches further forward at the top. I plan to cut my 8 hose to fit the 9 motor.

 

good info, glad its not the other way around so im not forced into buying new hoses right away
