Possible Rod Knock

ive been doing alot of searching on here and some other sites, and think i have a spun bearing on #1 cyl.
Whenever i start the car the knocking is really loud (Cold Start).
Once the motor has warmed up, the knocking can barely be hurd. sounds more like a lifter ticking.
Also once warm i can rev the motor, and the knocking/ticking is hurd, but is not at all loud. I also have an exhaust leak at the manifold to head, and manifold to DP.
i will try to get a video up. but for now any inputs?

Doesnt seem like a major loss in power, although full boost seems to kick in abit later then it use to ( 3.8-4k now 4.5 to almost 5k.)
will break down the motor this weekend and post pictures

Seems more like a noisy lifter. A Spun rod bearing would get progressively louder to mention the more youre boosting the more youre shredding the crank up.

Check your oil filter for metal shavings.

On my recent spun bearing it started out sounding like lifter tick so thats what I took it as. I was going home from work to swap lifters and thats it.....I was stranded on the side of the road with it knocking LOUD

Had something similar on my DSM the plastic lower belt cover was hitting. Check to see that nothing is touching the belts.

im in the process of rebuilding my engine from a spun rod in the #2 cylinder. if its a spun rod the knocking will continue to grow in noise and i also didntnotice a huge power loss, so i wish the best to you

By the way, I have a couple stroker cranks if you are looking to go that way with your build. heh.

I hope that it is just a lifter ticking though.

didn't take apart the motor yesterday, but took out the #1 Spark Plug. Plug looked normal (brownish with alittle white). I changed it with another plug that i had, crunk it this morning, and NO HARSH KNOCKING. i also tightened the exhaust manifold (the stud is striped inside the head, just kept turning). But once i would accelerate driving down the road i can hear a ticking consistent with the rpm, never getting louder just more noticeable.
i will start puting my other head together just incase with 1mm oversized lifters.
will keep posted.

seems like lifter tick... can you get us a video. when I had rod knock in the TT Stealth it would get louder when I revved the engine up while stationary or if I put load on it with boost.

Well, mine did what you are saying whenever I blew a head gasket. Do a compression test.

will do. i will post a video up. Just found a Vac Leak under my intake manifold
still a consistent ticking sound from #1 its either Valve or lifter. Also noticed when i am slowing down from an acceleration i smell radiator fluid. Happens while doing light pulls like 5-10psi and then off throttle slowing down. Maybe blown gasket.
No oil in radiator res. everything seems normal.
i started assembling my other head Race Port/Polish and waiting on new 1mm valves, and 5 angle.

Here are some videos. 1 is the Idle Warm up, and the other is a few revs.

It sounds like you have 1 of 3 things. Valve slap, lifter tick, or your rockers are out of adjustment. Now that I think about it, it's all related since we have hydraulic lifters in the 4G63.

Try bleeding your lifter's again and see if that makes a difference.
