Truth.

The S1s will give very good gains on stock appearing turbos. The S2 will also give gains but it asks for something back, spool. Big cams usually dont spool as well, though on the IX we get to cheat and make it work. The S2s really come to life with a big turbo though. All in all if you know your goal is xxx horsepower and you havent got there yet, buy the parts that will work with that goal. Otherwise you spend money and time on parts and labor you have to get rid of anyway.

I would do it, but wait until you have a reason to, like a timing belt job, or something similar. Kill two birds with one stone.

^+1. Now days it's not the parts that kills you... It's the god damn labor!

I talked to GSC on the phone and they told me that the S1's don't lose any low end and basically have gains through the whole poweband. I have the S1's sitting in my garage waiting to go in.

I bought them cause...

1. No need to upgrade valvetrain
2. can reve them to 8,000 if you want
3. will work great with a stock turbo, stock appearing turbo, and up to a 30R.

With the power/torque a FP Red makes on E85, I have no reason to go any bigger so the S1's will do just fine. Ecspecially once the turbo is upgraded.

S1s are good for stock turbo and your right that you wont loose low end but imo loosing 200rpms for an extra 10-15 HP up top is well worth getting the S2s or Kelford 272. You will wish you got something bigger than S1s. There are tons of people running S2s and Kelfords with Stock turbos and love them. Yes you will have to upgrade your valvetrain but if you plan on making big power in the future you will have to in the long run. DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!

I'd say kelford 272 if you don't plan to be stock turbo forever why waste money later down the line having to re upgrade cams?? I also agree do it right the first time Kelfords 272's with supertech duel springs/retainers

+1, for the do-it-yourselfers this is a quick install for decent gains.

For anyone with the S1's on an VIII, how is the idle? Is it still pretty tame?

I'm honestly puzzled by some of what I've seen. In Mellon's thread on this page, cams were installed into a IX with very limited success. On our local MD, cam'd IXs aren't doing that much better than cars with basic bolt-ons. I love the concept of added juice with minimal drawbacks as much as the next guy, but I'd sure feel better about (IX) cams if the results fully supported the idea.
