Sumping stock fuel tank

Has anyone on here sumped their stock fuel tank? I am looking into pulling the tank, sumping both sides of it, tying them together with a wye, and running a single big external fuel pump. I basically want to try and get away from using two fuel pumps whether it is with a surge tank, double pumper etc. I would hate to grenade an expensive engine because one of two fuel pumps decided to take a dump on me. I would appreciate any thoughts on this and any pros/ cons there may be. I am well aware of the fact that just running a large fuel cell will be cheaper. Thanks.

I'm working on a solution now using Aeromotive's new Stealth Eliminator Fuel System. It's basically a steel sump that is welded into the stock fuel tank. You can choose between their A1000 or Eliminator pump depending on your fuel requirements. The pump and fuel filter is built into the sump. It's a REALLY nice setup and only uses a single pump (the reason I bought it). I'm looking for a spare EVO IX tank to begin, but have the fuel system ready to go. You can find more info here:

Thanks for the link. That's a pretty expensive piece though IMO. I like how it has the stuff built into the sump, pretty cool. How far does that hang down? It looks like it would extend pretty far down past the rear bumper. The sumps i am probably going to install will hang below the tank a couple of inches.

Nevermind about how far it hangs down. I guess you can trim it and it looks like it only sticks down a little further down than the ones i was looking into. Cool piece.

Yeah, it's a really cool piece. You're right, it is a bit more expensive than other solutions, but if you look at what is included (high capacity single pump, filter, sump, return line fitting, etc.) it's a good deal for those that need the extra fuel. I'll post pictures of the system as I get further along...I just need to find a stock tank asap to get going.

Oh ok i thought it was for the kit iteslf, minus the pump etc. That's not too bad of a price then.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Evo fuel tank is a saddle type, so you're going to have to get the fuel from the other side as well. This is why i was going to sump both sides.

I find it hard to believe we are the only two who are doing this or has looked into it. Oh well.

Why not cut the tank down the middle and baffle the tank and weld it back up so only half of it is used?

Turns the 15 gallon tank into like an 8 gallon fuel cell. It will cut the weight down too since you aren't packing an extra 40 pounds of fuel that sits on the uesless side of the tank.

If you aren't road racing, there really isn't much need to use the entire tank and I don't think it would cut down the usable tank volume much on a street car. I never ran the tank lower then needing 10 gallons to top it off.

Yeah, it's a very good deal considering the Eliminator pump kit will support about 1400hp. The integrated filter can be changed with fuel in the tank too.

I'll figure out a way to feed fuel from both sides. I haven't had the car on the lift yet to determine where to place the sump yet.

I would just use a surge tank.. If you want the pump quieter build the surge tank so the pump fits inside..

I've looked into doing a surge tank but i would have to use two pumps.

I am trying to get away from using two separate fuel pumps for fuel delivery. If one fails, then i can kiss my engine good bye. I would much rather spend a little more sumping the tank and be able to use one pump for everything.

You could cut it in half and just use the seven or so gallons but at that point i might as well use a little fuel cell. My Evo isn't a DD but i do like to drive it out of town etc occasionally, so i would still need more fuel than a half a tank could provide.
