HKS RS kit installed... where's my midrange power?

I just got my HKS RS kit installed, the intake makes a nice sound and the turbo spools a little bit quicker. The downside is... the pull at full boost is no longer as brutal as with the stock airbox. Do you guys think an ecu reflash will solve this problem? I'm getting my Works P2 flash this Saturday, and hope my car will run great.

Any flow mod on this car seems to smooth out the very much eneven power delivery of the car stock. I experienced the same effect when I installed a downpipe on my car. HP is not as easily noticed as TQ, but when I get on the highway the acceleration up top is improved a lot, and I'd bet the same would be true of an air filter. ECU tuning would definitely maximize the gains though.

You're both right. I have the RMR open-element intake and pipe and an ECU flash. Top-end pull is MUCH greater (up to close to 8,000 rpm, too), and the ECU will smooth out any gaps in the powerband. In fact, I am going to get the dynoflash in a couple weeks - with my most recent mods and 93 octane, I bet I pick up another 20 whp... I'll report back.

Keep it up, Mark. I can't wait to see your car again in person!

I wouldnt be getting the Works reflash if I were you. Al dynoed one of the Evos with the Works reflash and it was detonating and only producing 7-10hp more than stock. For $450...I would expect A LOT more...

Mine is actually a kit for the EVO VII. One bracket didn't fit right, but everything else went fine. Took 1 1/2 hour without removing the fan and the battery. The kit for USDM EVO VIII should be easier to install.

909- I'm getting the new P2 brain flash which controls the boost as well.

Man, i love this thing, what a sound! Not only that but this thing pulls way harder from like 5500-7000, awesome! It was a breeze to install, just took my time getting to some bolts and everything came off and went on easily. I got the kit for the evo 8 by the way.

Here are a few pics...

It is a fantastic intake! Love it, great top-end power. I noticed that my 3500 power spike seemed to be revived when I replaced my stock d/v with the Forge unit w/ the yellow spring btw. Still, the thing merges on highways like it's on a freakin mission. "Get outta the way!!"

Here's my install tips/review:
