Question HKS BOV adjustment setting??

HKS SSQV screw adjustment setting...

Yea...yea yeaa...i know what youre thinking ...but since i do a lot of searching thru the forum(s)...it seems nobody got into the conclusion in which way the HKS SSQV adjustment screw should/correctly be set ( all the way tight/loose ) or somewhere in the middle ( half /1/2/3 quarter turn ) and how will it effect such setting regards to boosting?

P/s : Please dont opt me for another type BOV, why? bcos i like this HKS SSQV although it costs but worth it, great sporty sound *Pfffsshh...Pffsh..Pffshh*

I'm with you on this one. I actually started a seperate thread for this reason, the tuning of the SSQV, and I have yet to receive an answer. Here is what I know...

The SSQV is supposed to be able to handle low and high boost/high HP applications from its dual small primary valve and larger secondary valve, which as far as I know, comes close to a "perfect" BOV as you can get. From what HKS told me, SSQV is supposed to be already "adjusted" right out of the factory and don't need adjusting. They say that this is what makes the SSQV shine, but since there's really no such thing as a "perfect" BOV for any car, I adjusted mine anyways.

Since I heard so much about the SSQV causing stalling or rapid RPM drop, I tuned my SSQV so that the spring is just lose enough to NOT cause the car to feel like you stepped on the brakes whenever you change gears, but tight enough to prevent stalling. This isn't very tight at all and in fact, it's pretty close to what the factory settings were. On my car, the SSQV sounds like a fluttering sound around 2 PSI bar on a hard accel, but sound like a loud "WHOOSH!" past 4 PSI.

I think it's different for each car, regardless if we all have Evos or not, and whether you already have modifications done already. Just adjust it so that it feels right to you or follow the guidelines I typed up above. Adjust your BOV a 1/4 turn at a time, and yes, this will involve alot of runs up and down a street and pulling over for adjusting.

Good luck and leave feedback, new finds, and/or tips if you come up with anything .

Ahaaa this is what i'm looking for .... finally ....do this done that... it takes a while though to tune d thingie, like u said depends on how u drive the car... street or race...& i set it somewhere in between...make it too loose all the way = idling prob, vise-versa = stalls on high end, so i put it nicely right *fuhhh* hell-u-va experiment. conclusion: just 1/4 turn loose from the initial factory setting ( rite from the box delivered ).

Eventhough my BOV is V.T.A...but i'm gonna recirc it soon....waiting for the recirc to come to the door is the hardest part...hehhehe...

Experiment time: 16 times runs/ 13 stops. ( 4 hrs )
Tools: 2 small adjustable wrench, boost gauge.
Sense(s) : A good eye & ear, as well as two feet without shoe/socks for pedal feel...hehehe

Good luck
