Today i took the evo out and for some reason any time the turbo spools up, or down is my turbo about to take a dump on me or is this something else?

 

you sure its your turbo and not your tranny...
need more details.

i dont think it is in the drivetrane because it only whines when its spooling up or down it wont whine if i am just going down the road with the clutch in and the motor at a idle

Yes the RED (at least with the anti surge housing) is loud. It whines up and down clearly, resembling a semi.

 

I know that a sucking sound is normal on spool up but i have never heard this sound its more of a whining sound than anything

 

My Evo IX turbo was making a noise when I pushed the throttle but I wasn't sure if it was a belt, pulley or turbo so I ordered a Red, and a timing belt kit from BR. Here is the link to what it sounded like. It happened in gear, in neutral and stopped but it was louded when I was in gear.

hmm yeah this one only whines when boosting, it doesnt even make the noise if im pushing the gas and in lag only when it is boosting can hear it most when it is spooling up or down

 

Who would do such a thing???


Jeremy, sounds as if your turbo maybe on its way out. Have you checked for any shaft-play?

 

no i have not yet, probably gonna have to check it out soon i could just take the intake tube off to check it right? Sounds like we just got a rush on this fp red build lol i might try and come up next week/weekend and get some stuff from you too!

Yes, take off the intake to check for shaft play. And yes, the 80mm Red whines like a turbo on a diesel truck. I love it, especially since I had 2 superduty's before coming to the land of Evo's.
