its so wierd i mean these things can happen not just to evos but to any car SAME EXACT damage occured on a DRY REV no load what so ever on my aunts camry 4 cylinder.

the thing had about 60,000 miles on it, she was extremely LAX with the oil changes, but the big end of the road was still free floating on the crank.

what makes these things happen? i have no idea. it would sure be nice to find out tho.

This looks very similar to my failure.....

2 things are different....

1. you punched a hole in your transfer case & mine has aseveral gouges

2. your piston pin & top half of your rod are still in the pan! I never found mine....

the top half of my failed piston looks great.....the bottom half is somewhere on interstate 15 with other bits & pieces.

hmmm, this is sounding like a failure that Mitsubishi has seen before? Did you try and get Mitsu to warranty it?

^lol

I hoped ER seeing that you're in EVT, but wasn't sure. I'm over in Monroe and will eventually have them do a 4g64 for me. Probably a 2.2, though as I think that is all I'll need. I rarely take my car to the strip and am looking forward to my builds slowly plateuing. We'll see.

Not many can say they poured Antifreeze out of their transfer case:

Don't want to get too off topic, but are the 4g64s really good for boost ? I was told that was not a great option because the metallurgy was different and the walls were not as thick - the two combined making for more potential trouble.

At least you're having someone (ER) that knows what to do build your motor...Good luck

huh? The DSM/EVO community has been boosting the 4g64 block for a while now, the only real downside being no oil squirters in the block.

MAPerformance just ran their 4g64 powered FD to an 8.4 @ 161, seems like it is holding up just fine.
