diffrence between 8 and 9 turbo?
As you mentioned, the earlier USDM VIII turbos(2003-2004?) had the 9.8 turbine housing whereas all the USDM IX turbos are configured with the 10.5 housing. The center housings as well as the compressor and turbine wheels are the same on the VIII and IX 16G´s. The single puck turbine 10.5 housing found on the 2005 USDM VIII´s is the same one used in 2006 on the IX turbos.
The only significant difference is the IX turbo´s improved compressor housing design. This requires a somewhat different compressor backplate as well. So, comp housing and comp backplate/diffuser change from VII to IX turbos.
I am selling a complete 2005 turbo assembly (20k mi)-- from ex. manifold to 10.5 hotside O2 sensor return tube.... etc...--- still together and in one piece... Unfortunately I have not made enough posts (even though I have managed to achieve an itrader rating of 4communicating through PM's) to get it on the for sale threads...
