bearing wear on end bearings is normal. there is crank flex due to fly wheel and crank pulley. The belt pulling on crank pulley will flex crank. fly side can never be balanced no matter how hard you try. the clutch disc wear quickly and sits it different position after every shift. those shells look really nice to me.

Update:
I've started to pull everything apart.
I'm wanting to run GTO (GT3000 VR4) brakes on the front, and convert it to 5x114.3 stud pattern. Then i'll run either evo 8/9 wheels, or 17x7.5 32p Enkei RP01's.

Here are some pics
Transfer bolts broken, this was making it "clunk" on sharp slow turns.

gto vs evo 1-3 hubs

I want to run the front GTO hubs so i dont have to make up adapter plates for the brake calipers.
More pics to come later, i'll post them up as i make progress.

I'm seriously thinking about buying a Wavetrac front diff.
Does anyone know what their lifetime warranty covers?

Cheers, Mike

Interesting that you're going the GTO hub route (been following this over on MMC.org.nz). You could grind off the MITSUBISHI lettering to gain a little clearance, they're not quite as wide as the Brembos though, so Evo VIII/IX wheels should clear them easy (I've got some TME rims for mine when I decided to upgrade to Brembos on the 'Rage). Been considering this for my GSR when I get it back up and running, not really sure it's worth it though as I'm yet to find the limit of the twinpots with the XP8s.

Whatever you do, don't paint the bloody things red

Hey Jarred, yeah i dont have to go GTO route, but i wanted to give it a go.
I didn't find the limit on the XP8's i'm running, but they MONSTERED a set of discs in one day, so they must have been getting really hot. And i plan on going faster, i was only doing 220kph at the kink at Pukekohe before i was throttling off.

Red Calipers? Have you even seen my car before? Nothing i do is aesthetically pleasing But no, they will not be painted red.

The engine is mostly together. I've built the short block, reused the oil pump that i had on.
The head is being worked on by Royce at AutospeedEngineering, he definitely knows his stuff after working on Lemans cars and V8 Supercars.
We're doing some trick stuff with the head (top secret lol), and my flow rates have gone from 220cfm @ 400 (stock) to about 260cfm @ 400. This is on stock size valve.

I've just fitted Brembo's and Evo 4 arms and hubs. These bolted up easily. (front only)
Evo 9 wheels are on as well.

I will be running a stock evo 7 turbo for now (9.8cm2), once i've got the car running well i'll look at putting something larger on.

I'm seriously looking at doing a poor mans dry sump setup.
What i'll need:

Oil reservoir
2 or 3 stage scavange pump
mounting
lines
modify the sump

This system will remove the oil pickup from the sump.
Instead the pickup will go to the bottom of the reservoir, and the scavenge pump will replenish it.
This way the front cover, oil pump, and filter assembly does not have to be changed.

More info to come!

Cheers, Mike

The Mirage Lives!

finally got it started last night, the new engine had 100psi oil pressure at 1500rpm.
Everything sounds good, no problems.
I'll put the coolant system in tonight (if i can get away) and drive it around the block to check out the driveline (i built the 4.111 box).
Then it's off to the dyno to get run in, probably in 1.5 weeks time.

Stock turbo on a 2.3 with Mivec is going to be nuts
We'll see how the twin plate Kevlar clutch likes it!

Cheers, Mike
