Hello there, ive just bought an evo 8 and got a slight problem with it, ive got a ticking noise coming from the engine, now ive bought the car with the power of 425 bhp and it has got HKS 264 Cams, but when i bought the car im not 100% sure if i heard the ticking or not, im not sure if its from the cams or the actual engine, when i first heard the noise it was coming in about 2800rpm, everytime i go on boost, the noise is coming at lower RPM's, now the ticking noise is coming at 1900 rpm, so im not sure what it is, im also not sure if the car was driven that hard before i bought it, any help would be much appreciated as just dished at £14,000 and if the engine needs rebuilding or something else along them lines, im going to be in serious debt. thanks in advance, p.s if you need a video of the sound i can do that,

 

Most probable I would say is the lifters. I would suggest replacing your stock lifters with the Jam lifters and supertech valve springs/retainers first. Definately lifters but while everything is torn apart I'd install the new valve springs and retainers also.
