I plan to hold out for a DBB stock appearing turbo in the future. I for one believe that it will happen. I personally believe that a DBB Black would be dope. How about a DBB Black on a High compression 2.2 Long Rod or a High Compression 2.4L... Can I hear someone say 600+awhp with stock like spool?

Hey! You stole my idea....well minus the DBB option.

I would run this turbo on my stock block @37-40psi....but only if I had a built one to throw in just in case. Hmm....2010 should be very interesting.

Thanks for sharing this test DB. I personally expected a 300rpm spool difference so this is definitely quite a shock....in a good way.

Yea, two out of three friends I have with reds have had them fail, not road racing. On the plus side, FP was quick with the rebuild, about 10 days.

I'd like to know what's up with the center section, not MHI...?

That is a big gain.

Were there no other changes and did boost remain constant?

If boost did not remain constant, why do you think you were able to run more boost with the red? Was it really more efficient (cooler charge air) and does the red really alleviate back pressure issues significantly from a green?

The compressor backplate is cast as part of the CHRA, making the CHRA different from the VIII to the IX turbo.

From page 9:

The EVO8 and 9 do not share the same cartridge.

Do NOT bother FP with questions on upgrading from the Green/Red or stock EVO9 to the Black. They've made it quite clear they are NOT upgrading any turbos yet, they are selling new units only for the time being.

Tuning on lower octane on a small turbo vs. a larger turbo is a substantial difference in power actually. They do not run closer together as octane drops. The turbine wheel plays an important roll in all this keeping back pressure down and heat. In the case of the red/black the turbine wheel is the same size so it won't play as large an effect with just the compressor wheel being larger/more efficient.

There was zero surging on the dyno with the black. Chris can give some input as to whether there has been any on the street, I didn't drive it on the street.

To clear some things up.

Boost on this car with the black hit 20 psi at 38xx rpm. I pulled up two logs on similar built Red's on 2 liters and both of them hit 20 psi at 36XXrpm. So there is about a 200 rpm in spool difference from what I can see. Pretty minor.

On the street it drives nice and smooth with no surge. Almost the same as my Red.

Ryu, You planning on running a black on stock block now? I still don't have the ***** to run my Red over 32lbs on stock block!
