Those exhaust gasses were at one time the pressurized gasses in the cold side. So yes they do, only after being burned. They have to go somewhere...

I'm also curious, since FP has shown its obviously possible to do some crazy machine work in the housings, is it impossible then, to machine the center section for ball bearings? Is there just not enough of a gain to be had for whatever reason? It seems like this would make already impressive turbos absolutely scream.

A general 35R will spool about 5-5.5k. Now if you had a Twin Scroll divided/T3 HTA3582, then it might spool around 4.7-4.8k on a 2.0...
FWIW, my HTA3582 with twinscroll 1.06 T4 hotside gives 20psi around 4000rpm with E85 - about 200-300 rpm later than an FP Black.

For all you FP Red users, you may want to consider a bit of perspective before you go out and dump your turbos. While the Black may be good for a ~10% peak power increase, that is when both turbos are run pretty much flat out (e.g. E85 and 40+ psi). If one is using 25 psi of boost, the percent difference he'll realize in going from a Red to a Black should be expected to be less.

I have power numbers for 27 psi, 33, 36,38,40.5 and 43.3. On average, we were gaining between 12 to 20 psi for each 2 psi of boost. At 40.5 psi, my tune, and a few other changes to the car, we made 686 whp and 584 wtq. I hit boost cut at 43.3, otherwise I would feel comfortable with saying that the 'recovered' rpms after boost cut indicated 712 whp and 614 wtq. The turbo wasn't through at 43.34 psi. A pull or two we made were to 8500 and the power still held very well. I'l try to scan my 40.5 psi dyno sheet and post it in a few minutes. We observed peak torque at about 5600, but our car is a little higher strung than most.We also had wheel spin on the dyno during our 38,40 and 43 psi pulls. You can clearly see it at peak torque (5600 - 6400 rpms) then it settled back down. The logs show the rpm's going up and down when the wheel spin occurred. I stated in the earlier thread that was locked, this turbo is for real. It will become the number 1 street turbo because of it's early spoolup, big numbers and stock boltup configuration.

Post the graphs! 27 & 33psi especially, please!

I found the sheet of 36, 38, 405 overlays. Still looking for the 27 and 33, if I even kept those graphs. I have the logs for sure, but trying to find the graphs.

I would like to know the same on 27 and 33psi.
How built was the motor? List mods please. Or was it done on your car? Do you have Video?

Based on Tom's wording, the results were made on his car.

His car is built, the list is long, and distinguished (Top Gun reference). Consider it at the top of the pile for efficiency and making zzzz horsey powa.

I wish this stuff would have been out when I started my build, would have changed things up for sure.

Our car, and yes we have video and pics. Not sure that makes too much difference though. I can add that knowing that our car has a high rpm bias, we still made 20 psi by 4800 RPMS. I don't think too many cars will be any higher than that, so that would be WORST case scenario for this turbo. As I've said on numerous occassions, we probably run 600-750 rpms later than most built cars.

How would the Red/Black be on a 2.2L stroker?????? All I know is that they will have 10% increase in displacement!! would this mean that spool will improve by 10% too???? if its like that then 400-500 rpm would be noticed as improvement!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

The HTA86 at 41 psi 'catches' the BLACK at 40.5 psi at 6950 RPMS as far as whp. At 7000 on the HTA86 we made 692, the Black is 685. At 7500 the HTA86 is at 711, the Black was 682. The HTA86 @ 8000 was 720, the Black was 675, so you can clearly see the 86 is really beginning to pull above 7000, with 45 whp more by 8000. I don't think .5 psi is worth much more than 3-4 whp. Still looking for the graphs. I may not have kept them, but I definitely have the logs and data.
