Keep in mind that, like scheides said, on the AMS test they used a ported head. A few gurus on this site have said that over 10.5mm of lift will be wasted with an unported head. That's why the HKS series cams performed so well with a completely stock head, at least on an Evo 8.

Remember, those gains are on a 35R, ported head, and IIRC fairly high boost. Pump gas and smaller turbo, less mods, don't count on 44whp
It's all about percentages.
I mentioned them before and think its worth mentioning again, I went with the GSC Beehive springs that use the stock retainers. I don't think there is a better bang/buck out there, esp if you are on stock bottom-end and don't plan to rev over 8500-ish.

$220 www price, I'm sure they can be had for a bit less than that if you ask nice

I know it's not a popular choice but I went from HKS 272's to Comp 280's and got a substantial seat of the pants increase and over 60WHP gain in Evoscan after some AF changes. No real dyno numbers yet, but I'm very happy and they were reasonably priced.
I have the BF 272's + FP Be heave Sprins with Stock Retainers + Manley Valve ...
+1 for the BF cams ... Much better than the HKS ... . I have the HKS 272's and now the BF .... Awesome Cams ...

Thanks! I'm trying. BAPS (Ballistic Armor Protection System) saved my a$$ the other day, literally!!! We were flying in to pick up some injured Marines and an insurgent was shooting at us from a heavily grown over field. Hit the aircraft several times, one of which was directly under my seat (right crewchief/ door gunner seat). I thought I was done! checked my butt, no blood, checked my buddy, no blood, all is good! The ground guys called in some Marine Cobras and I'm sure they made that guy have a very bad day!

A very good recommendation. Also the Cosworth M2's, which have the same lift and profile, will give the same result. I switched from HKS 272's to the M2's and have never looked back. You will need to upgrade your springs and retainers as RockmanX stated. Also I recommend you read the AMS cam shootout for the best cam for your application and driving style/rev range.
