Block surfacing needed?
Block surfacing needed?
It's not a 4G63 engine, but in this board there are some of the best builders, so can I have an opinion?
This fresh rebuilt 6G72 come to me to be checked and assembled, and immediately I notice these dents on the deck. Probabily something fells on it from the machinist or in the garage where it previously was.

I have checked for block distortion, and it was nice, no distortion at all.
I want to resurface it for these dents, but it's a pain in the *** because the piston to head clearance can become too tight, so I probably need a thicker headgasket.
What do you think? Resurfacing is strictly needed? I am much worried from the smallest dent, nearly on the cylinder.

Personally i would have them fix it if you can get a thicker gasket ,if not you could have them oring the block which would help . However you should be safe how it is, there is no escape route. If it were a scratch across the face i would be more concerned. You should talk to the machinist so this does not happen again. I think a lot of machinists who are use to v8's do not know we need a real good finish on our block and cylinder head since we use MLS gaskets and they are not as forgiving as paper and other synthetics.
That needs to be re-milled. The damage is too close to the cylinders to take the risk. Orings wont help. You will have to machine the pistons after it's decked to retain the same deck heights. Sorry about your luck.
MLS gaskets have been around a lot longer than Evo's. V8's have used them for years. I think the OP just got burned by an incompetent machinist.
