Anyone running the new PTE ceramic bearing 6262?

Just wodnering if anyone has any comments on this newer ceramic bearing center section offered on their line of turbos.

I know Mike mention it in his thread for the smaller 5857 turbo.

It eliminates the need for coolant lines.

Does anyone have any first hand experience, comments, concerns?

I know quite a few people run the 6262 but not sure if it's the newer style or not Fathouse? Mellon? Anyone?

I'm looking into it w/ the T3 4bolt inlet & 3" V-band outlet .82 to replace my standard GT35R w/ .63 (5bolt housing)

Bump, I'm also interested to hear - coz they sound very similar to the Turbonetics Ceramic BB that come oil cooled but those you can specify water cooled if required for better durability...

Seems like the 6262's are no longer available water cooled...

Ya i asked about the option but they said it is no longer offered.

Looks like i'll be able to give you a better idea of how it works as it's now sitting at the shop for me to install.

I found a buyer for my 35R so i figure it's a good time to upgrade to newer technology.

I did end up going w/ the 4 bolt IN / v-band OUT

Our dyno has been giving us headaches so dyno results may take a bit longer than i'd like.......i still need to get back to the track ASAP before it get's too cold for traction.

I spoke directly to PTE and they stated it is not like T-Netics which has a standard journal bearing system on the turbine side and a ceramic single bearing on the compressor side, it is the same idea as a garrett DBB cartridge but it uses materials that are less suseptible to damage from heat. The chra also has the proper sixe orifices in them that you can feed the turbo from the same place as a journal bearing turbo with no worries about smoking and the reliability is rated to be 5+ times as reliable as a standard garrett dbb cartridge. It is also rebuildable if anything would happen vs a garrett which is non servicable.

Ok, thats good to hear - my Evo is gone in to have one of these new "air cooled" ceramic bb 6262's fitted...

If it is 5 times more reliable than a Garret dual steel BB turbo like a GT35R then we have nothing to worry about I guess...

Thanks for doing the leg-work and posting the info it really gives me a bit of relief but we all know the real world tests are where it's at!

Unfortunately when deciding i didn't have much time to speak w/ our PTE rep but he assured me these would be very very reliable..........i sure hope so

Hey Patrick, not sure if its normal or a problem - but when I shut down - the bearings in this 6262 make a rattling sound as the turbo winds down...

Does yours do that...

Sorry Supersal

Yes, latest air cooled style 6262 no water lines, ceramic BB

Sounds a bit like when you spin a revolver but softer as it winds down after the car is shut off...

Doesnt sound detrimental but my installer said it may be a bad bearing cartridge and will get roudier as the turbo ages... (So much for it being 5 times more reliable than a Garrett... LOL)

Ceramics are great at high temps...

Not so great at fatigue and fretting though...
