engine rebuild questions

I have a 03 evo tuned running 25lbs of boost. Was all stock interals. I bought an eagle crank and just wondering what people thought about them. And if anyone had an susgestions on thing I should buy for it while I have the motor torn apart. I also have arp head studs. I ordered the HTA3582 from force perfornance and what the max boost I could run with stock pistons. And also if anyone maybe had all the engine torque specs.

I would say if your replacing the crank, why not save up and redo the entire powertrain, rods pistons and crank? Why risk turning the boost up and cracking a piston than have to rip it all open again? If your going to do it once, do it right the first time.... just my .02

First off Tune is everything no matter what kind of parts your throw at it. Max boost on stock internals is pretty high, its high for any kind of car, its just the matter of the tune I've seen cars go 28 PSI on stock internals and I've seen cars go 30+ PSI on stock internals its all about the tune. But yes there is a limitation to everything.

Have the right person tune your car and you should have no issues as far as eagles cranks, not a bad choice IMO. you could have the qualities of parts but if you don't have the right tune you"ll go KABOOM in a matter of no time.

don't just do the crank and throw stock rods and pistions back in it. put that crank off to the side and get rod and pistions. also you should get all arp bolts and stuff. don't cut any corners on your build other wise you are going to have to do it all over. but after all said and done you should have a nice build motor.

and yes the tune is everything.

Well, you've honestly put yourself into a situation that is no better than where you started, simply because you bought the one thing you didn't need.

The factory crank is proven to be plenty good enough for whatever you realistically can through at it. I'd use that and get rid of the Eagle crank. Why? Because the Chinese-made Eagle crank should be expected to require some prep (checking for journal size, runout, and balance), which means you'll just spend more money trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

What you need in rebuilding your motor is a set of good pistons, rings, rods, fasteners, and bearings. Without these items, you basically have a factory shortblock, and factory shortblocks do not excel at withstanding 500+whp. And with factory retrofit turbos capable of beyond 500whp, it makes little sense to install a larger, much more expensive, much slower spooling turbo setup unless it is made to deliver at least 50-100whp more than the factory sized turbos.

FYI

the OEM crank is a good part. As long as it's not scored up or damaged, i'd stick with it. I'd suggest you build your motor with some good rods and pistons like Manley or Wiseco. That being done the right way will net you a motor that can hold some serious power.

Sell the crank and invest the money elsewhere.

Good luck buddy.

I would agree with all that has been said. The Stock crank is very reliable, for the price you paid for the eagle crank you could have bought a nice set of Manley Rods "H" beam's or any other good rod.

Do NOT waste your time and money by putting back in stock internals.

I spun a bearing on my old crank so I was forced to get a new crank no matter and that was the whole reason and me tearing down the motor.. And I talked to lucas at english tunning in washington and he said since I wasn't planning on running more than 30lbs of boost that to just keep my stock pistons cause they can handle quite a bit.

Build it right and you won't have to rebuild.
