Car breaking up

Car broke up a little bit on the high way under wot in 4th. Then i did it a couple times after that and it was fine.

Then late last night me and my friend took my car out got on it first to 3rd. After i let off 3rd the car started breaking up bad. At idle it was breaking up and when i would give it gas. The car was sputtering so bad i didn't think i was going to make it back to my house.

So i get it back to my house pull the plugs. They look fine so i got new plugs today put them in. The car is still sputtering at idle. So what would be the next logical thing to check?

I was thinking fuel filter , coils, fuel pump, injectors. If anyone has had this problem or if anyone thinks they know what it could be i would be greatful.

There is a fuel filter in the car actually............it's built into the pump assembly. There is a sock on the pump and a fuel filter. Just to clear that up.

What kind of plugs are you running and what gap? How many miles on the spark plug wires? If you have the stock ECU, you probably do not need a COP.

I'm running NGK-R BPR8ES im not to sure on what gap they are. The plugs were changed when the motor went in May. I have about 3800 miles on the new motor. Everything was running perfect up until yesterday.

The spark plug wires are the same ones since i bought the car new. So they have 33000 miles on them.

question have you recently put gas into the tank ? possably a bad tank of gas? specially if its happening when turbo kicks in ( water in gas? )

another thought if you have a eletronic or stock boost controler possably a bad solinoid (sp)

Chinto i was thinking the same thing i got gas from a new gas station. But the first time it happend i was in boost. The second time it did it in boost also. Then it broke up threw the entire RPM range even idle.

Whitemonster im going to check the maf tomorrow and make sure.

Thanks for all the reply's so far.

could be some type of crap in the gas water or who knows what i had something simular could be causing it to be random when in or out of boost when ever the crap gets out of the gas tank and into the engin..

i had also been getting low boost to i found that the stock controler for boost was not working correctly so i diss connected it and put a mbc on and all was happy why i suggested possably a bad controler for boost that randomly works and cut boost felt like i was gettn punched in the kidney when it cut out

do you have a boost controler ?

good luck hopefully its a simple fix

I'm hope its a simple fix to . I have a manual boost controller i think its a halman. the thing is i got only half a tank of that new gas. Once all this sputtering happend my first thought was crap its bad gas. So i went to my normal mobil gas station and got it filled. Everything was fine did some pulls 3rd and 4th gear. nothing happend clean pulls the whole time.

Then a couple hours later my friend comes over and he wants a ride. So i let the car warm up ect. It was pretty cold out i get on it 1s to 3rd its fine then when i let off the sputtering is horrible. Low rpm i have sputter if i give it gas it gets even worse. At idle it sputtering im so happy the car made it to my house lol.

So i don't know what to think at this point. I was scared at first and thought maby the timing belt jumped. But the motor / head would of been wrecked very quickly.

So its spark or fuel or maby the MAF like someone said. I'm just looking for idea's so i don't spend a small fortune on things i don't need.
