Upgrading wastegate actuator?

I have been running at 28 psi on E85 for quite a while now. The only thing that has been bugging me is how much taper I get. I am currently running the stock WGA and a hallman mbc. It always tapers to 20 psi at redline. I would be perfectly fine with this taper, but I have been seeing people with stock IX turbo's tapering to 25 psi at redline and its bugging me. The thing is though, that they are running ecu controlled boost.

Would it be a better idea to just switch to ecu controlled boost, or just start at the source and look into something like the FP 25psi actuator and keep my hallman mbc?

I have been searching and some of the information has been so/so. Heck I sometimes get better results using google to search for stuff on here.

I would start with changing out the wastegate, It should help...but I don't think it will make you hold 25psi at redline.

I've kinda come to the conclusion that its probably both my stock bov and the wga. Heck right now I'll be happy with it tapering to 23 psi.

ECU Boost will def help you out. Though the 25psi FP actuator will do the trick as well

Either or will do the trick. The ECU boost control would be nice though if you were switching maps for your E85 and regular fuel, that way you would only have to flash the map, or use the map toggle switch to do both the map and boost. The WGA would probably be the cheaper of the two, and if you don't have much knowledge of the ECU or aren't comfortable with editing the ROM then this might be the safer choice.

Good luck

Gonna iron out my speed density tune a little and then I'll give ecu controlled boost a whirl. Waiting for this white crap on the roads to melt, but who knows when that will happen.

I just took off my egr solenoid so thats what I'll be using.

Crush the stock D.V., set the W.G.A.'s spring pressure to 25 PSI, and port the turbine housing.

I've got a tial on my desk right now, so it will be on in a few days. I do think that my stocker is starting to leak, and will randomly blow open during a WOT run. Scares the **** out of me.

The stock, unported IX turbos, have always exhibited an inability to hold peak boost. That is, they TAPER. The only IX turbos that I know of that'll hold boost consistently have had their turbine housings extensively ported.

I think I'm going to try the WGA on mine. My 9 is having the same issues. My turbine housing is not ported and for the trouble I would get a bigger turbo. That might be where I head next anyways.

Did the OP ever try any of his proposed solutions to his taper problem? Did he ever solve the taper issue?

Do the best of both worlds. Get the 25psi WG and best a EBC (AEM TruBoost) or use ECU base boost control. You should be able to hold 3-5psi more out the top
