i'm ready to buy a turbo but dont know if i should get the red or black?
its going to be tuned for 93oct i'm shooting for mid to lower 400whp-450whp with my mods in my sig and the turbo & injectors.. at first i was going to buy the bbk full but then i changed my mind i want something a little bigger so i was going to buy the red but now that the black is out would it be better to buy the black since there the same price

they are not the same price fp red 1799+ shipping fp black 1999+ shipping. You can also buy used reds
for cheaper. The black is really more geared towards a built motor. running it on 25-30 psi is not going to show its true potentail. you will need to push 35-40+ psi on it to get the true power out of it. its also 200 rpms laggier then a red. so if you dont plan on doing any of that the choice is made fp red on 30-32 psi of boost and be happy. also double pumper is needed and according to new reports a modified oil pan might be need for the black as well. so its more of a expensive indever then to just "bolt it on"
edit i can see getting the black now to get it over with if your going to be building the longblock real soon etc. then yea get the black so you already have to turbo in place for sure but if thats not in the cards for awhile the red will do just fine.

Well of course i meant to say thats my opinion since i see that happen everyday at my job here, also keep in mind $1799 plus you need the Gen 2 feed line thats $150 = $1949 for the Red The FP Black already comes with the specific feed line so theres no confusion with that
The modified oil pan would be recommended to any car running over .x amout of G's during launch which is probably alot of big hp evo's. It is not a problem only associated with the black. Many cars have already been exceeding the limit and encountering this problem but it is only for a short period of time.
With meth or E85 you can easily hit your power goal with a red.
Although I am feinding for a Black...

aniel just answered your question yes you need it. I think if your not going to build the longblock then get a fp red 80mm ported and rock that turn boost up as high as it can get safely and rock that. you can get 500+whp out a red just have to have to right flavor of parts is all
Dude, listen to Aniel. Get the Black. I owned a Red and it was a great turbo but I promise you WILL want more. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. You will be better off in the long run getting the black now. If not I'll keep my eyes peeled for your fp red for sale ad next fall.
