ACT 6 Puck Sprung vs Exdey Twin Disk
never had any issues with my ACT HDSS loved it and loved the price.
drove an evo 8 yesterday with a 6 puck, the pedal is heavy but like everything once you get usto it you wont even notice it, the 6 puck will hold much more torque than the exedy.
choose your battles: what are you using the car for ? how much do you want to spend ?

I bet your not gunna be railing on your car run after run. You sound like you just like to do some spirited driving and maybe hit the stip once or twice a year. If this is the case just get the act HDSS or the 6 puck we all know 1200-1600 is ALOT of money for a clutch.
What is the Exedy twin rated at? I've heard a couple people mention that it doesn't hold THAT much torque? For $1200, what makes it such a popular choice?
What is the regular twin disc rated for?
What is the heavy-duty rated for?
Also, regarding the comment about rebuilding an Exedy versus replacing an ACT - either way, you are still doing the labor, or paying for the labor of doing a clutch job. To me, if I'm spending $1200 for a clutch, plus another $800 for the install, I don't want to have to spend $800 down the road AGAIN to rebuild a clutch.

I just blew out my ACT 6 puck, i believe one of the springs came off. not a bad clutch and def. grabs but isnt fun DD. id rather spend the extra on a twin personally, but for what the 6 puck is it does the job.
I just put a 6-puck(sprung) in my car. Once I'd gotten used to it, I consider it almost as easy to drive as a stock clutch, YMMV(I'd rather deal with a sharp engagement the the noises). I had a twin(though not an exedy) before and I couldn't stand the noises, the rattling I could of lived with, but the honking(wookie) sound from every stop light was way to embarrassing. I am sure an exedy will be slightly easier on the drive train, but I would probably say that as long as your not dropping the clutch you would hopefully be fine either way.
The other reason I didn't want to go with an exedy is that they are rated for about the target torque range you are aiming for, to be safe you would probably want to go with a triple because if you had a twin and it starts to slip, your going to have to pull it and put in a triple, both more money and time. That is of course only if you actually end up hitting 450 and I'm talking on a mustang dyno I have heard of people with less then 450tq slipping there exedy twin. But the act will handle more then the twin right off the bat. Also if your only going to be in that range there are at least a few other single disc's that will hold that power. I guess realistically you will probably be fine, but I would always in the back of my head be worried that it's going to start slipping when I get the car where I want it since it's so close.

The above guy is the first one I've heard about loosing a spring in the act 6-puck, so I don't think it's too common.
As far as mileage goes, I've talked to several people who have said they've gotten at least 30k miles out of the act 6-puck. From what I can tell most people get about 30k out of the exedy's but I've seen upto about 45k. But a twin will wear out faster then a regular clutch, they usually loose less material before they start slipping. My twin made it less then 10k miles(again not an exedy).
Just my $0.2, good luck with your decision.

hrm... I was a little worried about that. I'd heard that the noise could be caused by the ceramic material. I asked around and only heard about 1 other person complaining about the honking/wookie noise. All the rest said it was quiet. Also I haven't heard a single noise from it yet. Coming up on 500 miles now. Lets hope it stays quiet.
Quartermaster is the way to go in this situation, Better than ACT and Exedy and yes I have run all of them and the best part is the QM is cheaper than the exedy twin.
Act never again complete garbage as I have been through 4 clutch sets and they plain out suck!

You are referring to the QM twin setup?
I guess I'm back at asking again, why does everyone swear by the Exedy twin discs when it sounds like they don't hold that much power, they make a lot of noise, and they don't last exceptionally long compared to the price you pay for them?
