Acd fluid leaking through axle seal?!?!
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I am having the same issue, anyone know what the fix is? I'm afraid to drive my car because it keeps running out of ATF after about 20 mins. It does the same thing, leaks as soon as I fill the resevoir.
I have no idea but it sounds like some seal, either way I'm sure the TC has to come out to fix and probably come apart. I'm in toms river, let me know if you need someone to pull the TC for ya if you cant
i'm also having the same problem. i got towed incorrectly and the ACD fluid starting leaking out of the same spot. i had the seal replaced and it kept leaking. further inspection leaded to me getting a new TC and it still leaks. any help would be greatly appreciated

ok guys can someone just focus on my actual question. Should atf fluid from the acd leak from the axle seal.
im not making assumptions of what i think is wrong im stating facts! there is atf fluid coming from the axle seal. as i pour in atf fluid into the acd reservoir i can watch it drip from the axle seal. gear oil isnt red like atf fluid...
thanks
The piece on the left sitting on the paper towels is the piston for the ACD, it has an inner and outer O-Ring seal. The piece toward the bottom is the ACD section itself.. the piston fits inside there. When it does, it creates a chamber that fills up with the ATF fluid from the pump when commanded to do so.

That creates force on this clutch pack, locking everything together.

IF one of those O-rings is bad, fluid will escape and contaminate, you might try cracking open the fitting on the very bottom of the ACD section (bleeder) and have someone hit the gas with the key forward (engine off, key on) to see if your ATF is also contaminated with gear oil.
If so, those seals are definitely shot, you could buy them from Shep or TRE.

i emailed sheptrans about this and this was their reply
"Anthony,
Yes this is somewhat common. There is an inner seal that seals the ACD unit from the rest of the Tcase. If this is not resolved, it will damage the transfer case ring & pinion and could result in the ACD unit to burn up.
This inner seal is not available through the dealer or aftermarket. We do however, replace them in all of our rebuilds.
Thank you,
Trevor
ShepTrans"
he also said they dont sell these individual seals, so if you want it fixed you have to get a rebuild.
