I think I will go with HKS, just a more sensible decision. Does any1 agree?
You can get what you want but the S2s are 100% drivable and tolerable. 91oct is fine and the S2s and they will help you maximize your pump gas power. HKS are some of the mildest cams on the market and should only be for people that want a step overstock and do not plan to upgrade the stock turbo. I have a lot of friends running the S2s on stock turbos and they love them. The problem with the stock turbo is over 6k it falls on its face. The S2s really help the stock turbo pull upto 7.5k. I say S2s hands down. I have HKS cams but I say go S2s! You will regret it when you only make 20+hp with the HKS. That could have been 40+ with S2s. On some cars the higher lift S2 helps spool If you want you can call Greg at GSC and he will gladly help you with your desision and he is not bias!

You can always go with Kelford 272 they are between the HKS 280 and the S2. I have them on an Evo 8 and they are aggresive (lumpy) at idle but have very good street maners. No stalling on my car even with the A/C on. And I tuned them myself.

How do you figure the Kelford 272s are between the HKS 280 and S2s. They are almost identical to the S2s! The HKS cams, all of them, are not even close to the Kelfords or S2s in relation to lift.

The new S2s are 274/274 11.2mm lift/11mm lift

Ah ok I was looking at some posts and it seemed like there was two versions of the S2 a 278/274 and a 274/274. I'll call up GSC tomarrow and order me some S2s either way. Thanks for the response blkcarbonevo.

i regretted putting in my kelford 272's almost instantly. they are bad on low HP cars (i.e. below 400whp). If you want response, dont go Kelford 272's. If what people say is right, the S2's are similar. i think you'll lose alot of response out of these cams.
Not just spool, but transient response. Actual Lag will increase.
If you're ok with that, then go nuts.

Just FYI, as noone told me this before i bought my pair.

a true statement on the under 400hp cars and kelfords comment, except most cars with kelfords make 400whp+ even bolt on ixs we tune with kelfords and stock turbos make 400hp. Kelford 272s have one of the broadest powerbands of any cam on the market. Im sorry you are unhappy with the kelfords but we have installed and tuned just about every cam in the market and they have about the best powerband of any cam we use.

yeah i think i'll keep them in my setup when i got 2.3 if i dont get a mivec head.

how do you stop them lagging? even with a stock turbo the lag was great.
Not just actual spool point, but even well into the powerband (5000rpm etc with stock turbo) when you floor it, the lag is greater than standard cams.

hmm thats very very weird, what ecu is the car tuned on? could have a ton to do with tuning man. We have never seen anything but faster spool with these cams on any setup. Dont even worry about going with a mivec head if you are building a stroker get a good set of cam gears and degree the motor properly and she will be just fine. Mivec is a very good tool to use especially during tuning but at some point with high hp big turbo cars it is not beneficial

Sounds like you would be satisfied with GSC1's. Farther down the line, if you plan on making more power go with GSC2's or some kind of 272's.
