I just bought an evo8 and it has 130k miles...car runs and sounds like new but owner told me he never changed ANY of the gear fluids but it was owned by a old guy who used it to commute back and forth from work....said he never rode hard.
which i believe him cause ive seen him drive the thing back and forth alot...

SO what should i do? is it dangerous to change it now?

I would go through and make sure the whole car is up to date with its service requirements. Oil change, diff flush, tranny and transfer case, radiator flush, timing belt, oil pump, water pump, etc.

 

you NEED to change all fluids if you dont know what your doing or not mechanically inclined.. take it in....

 

what??? change it asap of course. I'm surprised the transfer case hasn't started whining unless the stock diaqueen is that resilient.

 

Im sure its that resilient.. haha i got an ear full when i changed mine.... the **** was impossible to clean out hahaha..

 

i would recommend getting everything serviced ASAP

save up to do the 120k service. you don't have to change the drivetrain fluids every 30k, (unless you track the car or beat it up), but at 130k, if the maintenance is in doubt, DO IT!
