Downpipe hitting TC

My downpipe is hitting my transfer case and causing a lot of vibrations and noise at idle.

Does anyone else have this problem? What downpipe did you have with this problem? What did you do to fix it?

Who here does not have this problem? And what downpipe do you have?

I am looking to just replace the current Apexi DP to a different 3" DP, but want one that I will not have this problem with, nor have to bang a dent into to avoid this issue.

Thanks in advance.

for now i'd bang a dent in it asap if you plan to drive it. i've heard a few horror stories of the vibration eating through the TC... then get it replaced asap

Yeah I had the same problem with mine. Took it off, hit it with a hammer until it didn't rub. It was an ebay downpipe btw.

I've looked at it and part of the turn in the DP is hitting like a corner of the TC. Such minimal contact space, but still an issue. And when I brought it to Mitsu for some work, the tech told me the DP was hitting the TC after driving it for like 2 min LOL.

I'm thinking of going with Megan DP and Test Pipe

I have the megan dp with flex coupling and megan tp. It doesn't hit the tc on my 2003 evo.

^Yes thats because you have a 2003 so there isnt an ACD. The issues where downpipes make contact with the transfer case only occurs with 2005's and IX's.

OP you should be fine with any downpipe that says its suited for the ACD. There are a lot out there so its really up to you.

Take it off and hit it with a hammer. If you have a way to heat it up prior to hammering it makes the process much easier.

yea i don't really want to have to bang a good DP. I would rather replace it since it is only a 2.75" anyway, but don't want to have this issue with a new DP.

No, I currently have a 2.75" DP and HFC. I want to switch to a 3". I just don't know what the issue is as to why it is hitting the TC.

Try tweaking exhaust hangers a bit - sometimes a rubbing downpipe is no fault of the downpipe itself. My WORKS DP tapped the TC a little bit... ended up tweaking all the exhaust hangers a bit to get it to move over about 1/8" which was enough to stop the tapping.

Do anything to prevent the downpipe from rubbing! I just recently had a post about my TC leaking and it was because of my downpipe. I have a TurboXS downpipe and it melted the side of my transfercase making a pin size hole. Now I don't know if I should replace it or if there is an option to get it fixed......
