Is porting and coating turbo & coating O2 housing worthwhile??
Is porting and coating turbo & coating O2 housing worthwhile??
Hi,
I am looking to upgrade my turbo very soon to either a HTA Green, BBK, or maaybe a Red.
I am wondering if getting it ported is worthwhile? Also, is coating it worthwhile?
And how about the O2 housing. Is it worth coating this as well? I am going with a Shearer O2 Dump from AWD Motorsports. Should I get them to coat it as well?
I am ordering from overseas so I was just going to get the port job done by FP for the turbo. I don't think they offer coating though? Is it best to get the porting done by FP? Or get it the port/coating done by someone else?
I am already getting a Buschur Ported and Coated stock manifold. And can't really afford to get the ported IM and TB atm...Also is the Buschur Ported/coated mani the best option?
Appreciate any help you guys can offer!
Thanks!!!

Yea and if you already have all your hot-bits off just get them all ported and coated.
When you go to do the intake side, it wont do any good unless you do both intake manifold and throttle body.

porting is good for hp & tq
coating is good for keeping temp's trapped inside the turbo which should make the turbo flow better & spool faster
offtopic: i just got my fp-red, i paid $95 to get it ported but cant tell where they ported it?? where does fp port there turbo's the intake cause i really cant tell if it ported or not.

Thanks for the advice so far guys!
What's better - Buschur or MAP ported stock exhaust manifold? Or any other options?
and can anyone else offer any answers to my questions in the first post?

In regards to the O2 housing I would also recommend taking a look at our unit here, its over $100 cheaper for a very similar product and we guarantee no fitment issues whatsoever

Also, I would love to help you out with your turbocharger and we can certainly port the turbine housing for you as well. We could be your one stop shop to get all of these components including porting and coating, not to mention our international shipping rates are extremely affordable
Thanks Chris. I am currently waiting on a reply from Kasey in regards to some of this.
So should I port and coat the stock manifold and new turbine housing on the turbo?
And coat the O2 Dump Housing as well?
Please help!?

-Version 2 fully ported manifold: 3whp peak power gains, but +36wtq/+27whp @ 4000rpm and 25+ whp gains above 7,000 RPM!
-Version 3 max modified manifold: 3whp peak power gains, but +47wtq/+35whp @ 3800rpm and 25+ whp gains above 7,000 RPM with an additional gain of 10 ft lbs of torque in the peak powerband!
I now read MAP's webiste and it states the following for both the V2 & V3:
initial testing shows +36tq and +27hp at 4000rpm and still had gains up until 6000rpm where our test car started to see knock and the curve matched the stock manifold from there out.
Why do you claim the 25+hp increase above 7K rpm when MAP's own website states there are no gains above 6K rpm?
Check this out for more information on the exhaust manifold porting

To me the data appears to be within the noise. You have to understand there is too much variability for anyone to definitively claim an increase in power. Even if I look at the two curves for just the MAP manifold I see variations of 5-10hp. Is this to say the MAP port is worth 5hp over the same MAP port?
I would venture to say that if you took 10 dyno runs using the busher port and 10 dyno runs using the MAP port at random times you will find a percentage of butcher manifolds that read higher gains.
The data doesn't support these claims that the MAP porting is better.
