Stripped thread on gearbox - What's the best way to fix?

When I took of the t/c I found this:

I'm thinking about machining a larger hole and putting a brass insert in there. What you guys think?

best way is always the most expensive.
timesert is far better than helicoil but both will work.
so will using longer bolt and a nut (cheapest fix)
or tapping for american fine thread. dont know what works for 12mm upgrade but stripped 10mm can be tapped with 7/16-20 and works perfectly. drawback is you now have an amercan bolt on your car. and you have to enlarge eye as well.
