Question So many clutches. so many ?

first of all i drive a ix mr with a bad clutch. While im searching for a new clutch i might as well look for a pressure plate and flywheel. My problem is that my evo is basically bone stock so i dont need a twin clutch for stage 4 whatnot. just a good replacement for the oem clutch kit.

For price related i found that Competition Clutch Stage 2 Clutch Kit (PP and clutch plate) is the best but the ACT HD Clutch kit (HD PP, HDSS Clutch) is the fan favorite around the forums.

I also read about the coffee grinding noise is very typical on the ACTs but again im basically driving a bone stock evo and i really dont need that much build for my car along with the noise. bleh.

Now if the flywheel is fine im leaving it but if not which flywheel should i get?

Last thing is i read on the forums here is that if i do get an aftermarket clutch/pressure place that my local mitsu dearlership will install for free? how does that work?

Search a little and you will find 100 clutch discussion threads, and you can search each individual type and almost always find a thread on the pros and cons and peoples suggestions.

I would recommend Exedy, I have always used Exedy clutches in my Evo, with 0 problems, they make single aftermarket clutches for the 4G63 that are not too pricey, but long lasting and very easy to DD. I would not say that ACT is the most sought after clutch for the car also. If you are not racing than it should be fine, but some are known to have lockout issues. Also, search this topic, you will find multiple threads. If you aren't racing then just resurfacing your stock flywheel will do fine, but some clutch kits come with an aftermarket flywheel included, just look for a good priced kit.

The dealership will absolutely not install it for free. Any clutch that you put in there, that is not OEM will most likely void your drivetrain warranty. Mitsu is very picky about warranty issues and what you put on the car, some will still honor some parts of a modded Evos warranty, but it depends on the dealership. I can guarantee that they will not do a clutch swap for free though. Where the hell did you hear that? It will be at least a couple hundred dollars in labor. Don't forget a new throw out bearing when you get a kit also.

ACT's lockout at high rpms. Are you going to be beating on your car though? You say its stock now but are you planning on modding it? Exedy twin disc is expensive but seems to be the best overall for mild modded evos.

ACT HD pressure plate with a sprung 6 puck doesn't have the problems with high rpm lockout. I suggest that if you plan on modding and don't want to spend a **** load on a twin disc.

I have been going thru forums for hours now and those are the ones im going for. i dont plan on doing much modding. i baby my evo. i do have fun pushing it here and there but nothing major. Money is an issue. I dont plan on spending more than 800 with installation. thanks for all the advice tho! im pretty sold on the resurfacing the flywheel if it looks funky. Isnt that bad tho? more questions lolz

Why not just go with another stock clutch instead of worrying about potential issues with aftermarket clutches?

Stock clutches are trash.

I say, since you don't seem to be modding heavily, just go with a ACT HDSS (Heavy Duty Pressure plate w/ street disc). Won't be that expensive and it will be fine to drive on the street.

Cause i heard they really arent equipped for evos and they dont last long. I bought this car used at 19,000. Its now at 25,000 and its starting to slip. granted i did have fun in it but i didnt launch it every week or redline everytime i get to a stop. I do baby my evo. I just dont want to replace the clutch every 25,000. please prove me wrong. i would love to get an oem. (theyr cheap!)

doubt you will get a clutch and installation for under 800 unless your doing the install yourself. i have a mildly modded evo with Clutch masters stage 3 and fidanza lw flywheel for dd and i love it. not too pricey and grabs hard. act is known for lockout but cannot comment first hand. exedy twin if you have the money is awesome

Organic singles are nice for a stock feel.

455.99 or cheaper + shipping. Install would put you right around 800 total. 40% more clamping load than stock, stock feel, easy to DD. Always get the flywheel resurfaced, it is cheap, and assures you won't have problems down the road. The last thing you want is to pay a shop a couple hundred to to an install, have a problem and have them rip it apart again. Its really cheap to get a flywheel resurfaced like ~$30.

$500 from AMS. Shop around for a good price. I think this clutch is your best bet though.

Good luck
