Cam Switch

Right now I have a set of Buddy Club 280* MIVEC Cams and I am considering switching to GSC S1s.

I have a JAM Stage II 2.3L, Headgames Stage 1 Head, FP White, and bolt ons (IC+Piping, AMSOil Filter on Stock Intake, 3" TBE with a HFC, GM 3 Port and 4 Bar Omni, stock everything else).

I want a more streetable cam with better idle/part throttle/cruise/spoolup response. But my head is built with Valve Springs and Retainers. Do I have to run a more aggressive cam because of the seat pressure? I really like a fat torquey powerband for the street and don't really go WOT except to tune and at the track so I want to choose a camshaft for that.

The specs on the BC:

And the S1s

Any recommendations besides the S1?

wouldnt the s2 give you the best of both worlds and you could still use the same springs?

GSC says "The S1 cams are designed for those with the stock turbo up to the GT30/50Trim. These cams will not sacrifice any bottom end loss over stock cams; nothing but gains and will promote faster spooling of the upgraded turbos. Gains of 25-40whp (depending on Turbo) have been seen by simply bolting the S1 cams in. Designed for a rev range of 3000-8000rpms, these cams work well on the stock valve springs. 300-450whp camshaft."

That is pretty much what I want based on my turbo and power range

"The S2 cams are designed for those with more power in mind or a larger turbo. No low end power is lost vs the stock cams when used with the larger turbos. The S2 cams will show gains of 50-70whp over the stock cams and in some cases more in the higher RPMS. Great for 2.0L engines revving to 9000rpms or for Stroker motors revving to 8000rpms. The S2 Cams are suggest to run on our upgraded Beehive valve spring replacement or can be run at the stock revlimit and factory boost on the stock spring. Designed for a rev range of 4000-9000 RPMS(2.0L or 3000-8000 2.2L+), 400-700whp applications. S2 cams can run on Factory ECU with custom flashing."

But that is why I raised the spring issue. Do I need an aggressive cam on the BC Springs and Retainers. If not, I will go S1s or similar. If I do, I will keep my BC 280s. Not looking to make more power by switching to S2s, I want a streetable cam.

it is a good question , but i would consider the fp white a step above the stock turbo and be a good match for the s2

i would say just pm greg at gsc he returns pms pretty quick and will let you know what you need

im on the red so the s2 seems like a better set up for me

even though im at 3800k spool on the red and stock cams

I agree, but I'd say the Red is pretty much a 35R in terms of flow which passes the S1 max of GT30/50 trim. No way I'm flowing more than those turbos so I believe S1s are the best choice, I will PM him thanks for the advice.
