Question Down Pipe questions

Iam wondering about down pipes . My local speed shop told me that if I were to get a after market down pipe then the stock cat would get cloged very easy . Is there any truth to this?

No it wont. You just wont maximize the exhaust flow. But that is BS about it cloging. If I were you and interested about a downpipe get a high flow cat then you have to worrry about anything

Just think about what they are saying. The DP will not cause in increase in the pollutants in the exhaust stream. In fact it could be argued that an open exhaust would cause the pollutants to have less residence time in the cat, thereby reducing its effectiveness and increasing its life. Although this argument then presents the problem of a slightly higher concentration of pollutants exiting the tailpipe as a result.

I agree with hammer about the possibility of having a few more pollutants but that amount is very very minimal. I used to be a smog inspector in Cali. There was too many bullsh#t so I left. Just a note...for fun, a few of my friends had a very well tuned car and we "gutted" the catalytic and the car still pass the smog test. Not by much, but it still pass. So just keep your car in tip top shape and you won't have problems.

peace

If you are looking for a downpipe check out the RnR O2 eliminator DP. At $395 it is a steal. I don't work for them or anything, but I bought one and it has made one hell of a difference!!! The turbo spools up right now and then it is on!
