Megan Exhaust Mani

so I know many people recommend not going with the Megan Racing Exhaust Manifold because they crack, but I am on a tight budget and it is short term. Plus I only put 10k or less per year on the car. (2003 TB Evo 8)... so here are a few questions I would love opinions on!!! Car only has TBE and intake, stock boost levels.

1.) I hear the OEM exhaust manifold gasket seals better than the one that comes with the Megan Racing Exhaust manifold??? (any other suggestions?)

2.) If I wrap the manifold in DEI's hi-temp fiberglass exhaust wrap, will that make the manifold more likely or less likely to crack, if it were to crack at all???

3.) Should I/do I need to get new exhaust manifold studs and nuts to do this job???

The megan one flat out sucks and will yield very few hp if any over the stocker which has gone low 10's high 9's so why would you wan't any more than that?
If anything have the stocker ported from Buschur for close to the same amnt of money.

The stock gasket is the best and can be reused as well as the turbo gasket.

Never use the Megan gasket unless you feel like removing the manifold again. Wrapping it will not help with the cracking issue. What you would need to do to keep it from cracking is to support the turbo by keeping it bolted to the block. The tubing Megan uses does not carry the weight of the turbo and exhaust too good and that's why it cracks. Just port the stocker.

Just buy a ported/coated stock exhaust manifold. Better and cheaper.

If you buy the Megan manifold you might as well sell your Enkei or BBS rims and buy some steel American Racing rims....You may like the look of the Megan manifold but it won't perform and will eventually crack...

Answer to your questions:

1. Oem exhaust gasket is fine

2. The megan exhaust manifold "will" crack over time no matter what you do.

3. No you don't need new studs/nuts but will make it look cleaner.

Now my opinion from experience and testing and you have two options:

1. Stock Ported/Coated Exhaust manifold

2. Full Race Tubular Manifold if you can afford the price tag.

You can't go wrong with the stock exhaust manifold.

It may not be the prettiest but it for sure gets the job done and is proven.

If I were you, I would port and coat the stock exhaust manifold. At the same time get your stock intake manifold ported along with your throttle-body. That combined with a re-tune will net you an easy 15whp.
