Transfer case broken......now what???

So two days before christmas my car gave me the gift of the "death whine" After watching serval videos I'm positive this is what it is, the car makes the whine even at 20 mph in nutural and rolling. So saturday I went to check the fluid (I was going to replace it weeks ago...long story) and sure enough they're was hardly anything in there, there was no metal flakes or chunks coming out or on the magnet, there was some "graphite" looking stuff and felt like it too but I would assume that pretty much normal???? But in any event my question is (and I'm sorry if this has been covered before) how hard is it to rebuild it?? I mean I would I be better off shipping it off to someone??? And if so who?? There's two T-Cases on ebay right now for $1100 so I figure spending anything under that would be worth it. Thanks

Contact Shep in OH. He can get that fixed up for you.

What fluid did you put in there? Graphite like shavings on the magnet are normal.

^^^ +1 Realistically, it is going to cost you more than $1100 though. A Shep T-case is an awesome upgrade!

or TRE's in Michigan, those guys do a great job and a little cheaper than Shep...btw its not $1100 to rebuild the t-case, far from it..stage one at sheps is around $350 i think, and depending on the power you have you can always upgrade to stage two or three.

Once the death whine is present it needs a new ring and pinion. That's over a grand from shep.

TRE in Michigan did mine!! But the 3rd option is to turn the volume up on the radio so you don't hear it.. lol. sucks, sorry. I would look in classifieds and buy a used one. (I did that too, and had NO ISSUES with that one either)

So I'm better off getting a used one because having it rebuilt will be more? I'm not making crazy power nor do I plan on it anytime in the future. Right now I have an intake, clutch and flywheel and I plan on an exhaust but that's about it. I put the diaqueen in

if your looking to spend under 1100 then just try to find yourself a used TC in decent condition with low miles... good luck man

Dude if you plan on keeping the car for a while don't buy a used one! you never know what it has been through! Just pony up and spend the $ on a rebuild

^^ this is what's rattling my brain, thing is the car has 114k on it so I think I might just keep it for another two or three years until it's paid off and get a X. I am leaning towards having it rebuilt. In any event I'm not going to have the money until the end of the month or about halfway through next month so I have until then to decide

When you say not much came out, how much are you talking? They only hold about a quart of fluid. Now if only like 3tbs came out, you'er eff'd.

Mine is making some noise, but I'm not worried about it too much yet. Contact Shep or TRE.
