Hi there. Can anyone tell me where can I find the info that tells me how to distinguish what Evolution model a cylinder head was from (v, vi, vii, viii, ix etc). The reason for this is a friend of mine gave me a head that I can do some porting on but he doesnt know which car it came from. Are they all the same except the ix which is the mivec head? The code on the head says G6EW. Can a Evo ix head work on a viii block?

 

I can give you enough info to get you started. The earlier Evo's had the old 4G63 engine that DSM's had.....which means the engine has the cam gears and stuff on the driver side.....the later Evo's ( at least 8's and 9's) have it on the passenger side.

Yes I think I saw a similar code on my friends IX head as well.
