Why the switch to the heavier oil?

I would think it would be louder esp in the temps your seeing right now, 15w-50 has go to be thick as molasses at 30degrees F.

The car is going on the dyno today & I wanted to change the oil first, it was nearing that time. I went with a thicker oil because I will be installing a Shearer T3 kit w/ a HTA3582 as soon as I get back home & I thought I would get extra protection from a slightly thicker oil.

So is the kit on the car now?

I could see using that weight in the heat of the summer, it might be a little too much for January though...

you would go with thicker oil durring the summer and thinner oil durring the winter. if the weather is close to freezing i would go with 5w30.

Will I harm anything if I leave this oil in? I have to drive on the highway (70mph) for 1.5 hours to get to the shop, but when I get back home, I'll park the car until the weather heats up a bit...Weather.com says the weather will be back up to high 70's in about a week.
no.

He is down in Florida. Though I guess they have some cold temps down there right now. Still seems like a bit thick for the Winter even in Florida.

in all honnesty you have chosen the wrong oil weight for the cold snap we have here in florida this week.

you should be using a 0W30 or 5W30 even a 10W30 would be fine just heat it up a little.

15W50 is like trying to sip on panckake syrup throug a coffe straw, you are hurting your engine more than what you are helping it, if you were running high boost 35+ with big turbo and built engine with some hot fuel i would say ok to use (still not needed though) but where your car is sitting now no need for the 50.

the tap is because the pump is suffering trying to pump that thick *** cold oil through the galleys.

I feel like I can hear the valvetrain more...but it is weird... it is only @ certain RPM & it is not constant... Am I just being nervous?

Only sometimes @ idle I feel like I can hear the valvetrain tapping louder than I'm normally accustomed to. But it's only sometimes & not the majority of the time. Then I stand still & rev & hold it @ 4K and it sounds like everything is running in tip-top shape...

I hope I didn't mess something up...

I live in FL where the temps are usually in the 80's. Today they are in the high 30's. (I don't know if that matters at all.)

Anyone have experience with this?
