APS Cold Air Intake ?

Hey all -

I was looking for some goodies for my car, and came across a true cold air intake. I have never seen one for the Evo before, except for this one by APS. Am I just dense, or are there not many on the market? Does anybody have any personal experience with this one? Does anyone know of another one? I am quite interested in it and would love to relocate my filter outside my engine bay. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear it. http://www.airpowersystems.com/us_sp...evo-hfa_01.htm Thanks in advance!

Do you know of another cold air intake? Or would I have to frankenstein something together? The fabrication isnt a problem, its just another project to undertake. OR does virtue of the fact that ACD is there completely inhibit a cold air? Sorry for all the questions. -stuie

I had this intake before I just put the huge 4inch pipe on after eliminating the MAF. I never used the IC spray anyway. I actually still have mine, but yours being an 05, I am not sure how the ACD gets in the way as I have an 04 with no ACD.

Best solution is to put a cone filter in the traditional location and build a box around it that separates it from the air coming off the radiator and allows air to be drawn in from the front bumper air vent. Somewhat surprisingly, none of the vendors have ever made and sold such an item, so it needs to be custom fabricated which makes it a bit spendy.

Fred....it really isn't that difficult or expensive to make. A piece of sheet aluminum, some tin snips and the ability to bend it....too easy. Works like a champ.

A word of caution with it. The outer edge near the fuse box has a tendency to blow upward if it isn't tied down some how. Look closely at my pic you will see a small carbon fiber L bracket that is double side taped to the fuse box. The heat shield simply slips under the L bracket.

If you plan on making one there is a couple bolts on the radiator support near the radiator. They are 2 10mm bolts. Build the panel so that it can use those bolts as mounting points.

Nice job. I've got a few questions if you don't mind:

- Did you remove the bracket that supports the intercooler pipe and factory airbox. (I think the answer is yes, but just want to be sure.
- What thickness aluminum?
- Where did you get the aluminum sheet?
- Looks like you were able to make some pretty sharp bends for the cover piece. How did you do that?
- Got any more pics?

Yes the stock brackets are all removed. I have a small U shaped support on the bottom of my filter adapter.

The aluminum is 1.5mm thick

I got the sheet from my local hardware store. I paid maybe $10 bucks.

I used then edge of my bench to make the bends. Then used and hammer and dolly to work the rest of it.

As for pics...
