Ever had a rear diff problem at cruise?

Sounds weird right. I was just driving on the highway the other day cruising about 70 and started hearing this whirling noise...felt a little jerk....pulled off on exit....BOOM. It sounded like a bomb went off under my rear end. Car would still move slowly so I moved it a few feet forward to see f I could diagnose the issue and sure enough every couple of feet the rear diff would bind and jerk the car. Got it home and started pulling it and it feels like a tooth came off in it from turning the input shaft. I will report back back tomorrow with some pictures of the insides after I pull it apart. Luckily enough I found a steal of a deal in the classifieds for one with only 5k miles that will be here tomorrow as well! Just curious if anyone else has had anything even similar to this?

Update!!

Well just as everyone who looked at the thread thought, it was actually my transfercase that locked up. Probably a little more serious than most, mine went out while getting off at an exit doing about 50. These are pictures of the rear diff.

Lesson of the day kids is to keep an eye out for t/c leaks and keep up on your fluid changes(which will help find the leaks).

Rear diff is replaced now, but still need a transfercase. I don't think I will get anything used that hasn't already been done by Shep or TRE.
