I am going to go buy my oil...Does it really matter if I purchase the Mobile1 full syn 5w-30 rather than 10w-30?

10w is for hotter weather... 5w is for colder weather...if you look at the boxes they have different coverage temperatures..

10w is thicker for the heat...5w isn't as thick for the cold

most people put 5w in the winter and 10w in the summer

Guys stick to 10W30 or perhaps 5W30. Don't try 10W60. That will be BAD for your motor. 60 means it's thicker, not "better".

Costo has 6 quart for $24, might be a better deal in the long run.

Is it bad to mix Mobile 1 10W-30 and 5W-30? I live in So Cal weather doesn't get that cold. I want to run something thinner like 5W for better gas mileage but want the protection of 10W. What to do???

I would do 5w30 just for the winter and 10w30 for all other seasons. That's if your winters get to freezing temperatures but if not then 10w30 all year round.

I use 5-30 in the winter and 10-30 in the summer. I get my M1 for $3.39 a quart!

I remember an article in Car and Driver featuring a Dinan supercharged or turbocharged car and Steve Dinan said for a turbo motor he liked the thick stuff for oil. Thicker would seem to make sense for better protection, especially if you live in hotter weather.
