Cheap Boost Controllers

What's the deal with this. I find a lot of these cheap boost controllers on ebay, less than $10, with very good feedback from tons of people who have bought it before. Would you put one of these in your Evo? For $10, give or take, if it doesn't work well, you can just throw it away. What else do you need to hook up one of these manual controllers?

The manual boost controller is just a valve controll that you can buy fron hardwear store ! if you know the size of the valve that will work on your car, you can get lower price if you buy it from the hardwear store yourself. thats why they charge a bit more for the boost contorll valve on ebay. Sure it will work. but I still prefer electronic boost controller like HKS,Greddy,Blitz. just me 02.

$10 for a boost control, hells no! you just spent 30k on a car and you want to put a $10 boost controll. do your self a favor and buy a better one, you dont want to be thinking at 6500 rpm racing somebody that you have a $10 boost control.

than again if money is tight after that 30k you just spent, F*** it get it till you could get a real one.

i am in the process of looking for a good price on a hks evc v.

I'm more curious to test it, not use it for good, since it's so cheap.

Trustz, what am I looking for at the hardware store? A bleeder valve?

Just the one look like the pic on the ebay ! make sure find the one adjustable. but it may have different size. not sure which one will work on cars, because if the valve size too small, you may over boost , or if the valve size too big, you may have NO boost ! Be safe side I will say just get the ebay one and try it. for a few dollor more, you may save time and trouble.

I purchased a Hallman for 39 bucks on ebay two days ago. I purchased it specifically for my Dynoflash Saturday. The EBC is nicer because you can set it exactly and easily. I have an AEM coming, so there was no need to pay 3-500 dollars on a boost controller. And an EBC doesen't necessarily hold boost any better than an MBC. A good MBC is just as accurate.

And hopefully I'll run 12's on my MBC

How well does it hold the boost (the mbc)? I'm sure it falls a little, but how much in general?

The boost falling off has nothing to do with the MBC..

First off, remove the restrictor in the line to the soleniod. Then buy a good quality MBC ...not the cheapo EBAY ones. All it takes is for the MBC to fail and you engine is in serious trouble.

Speaking of restrictors.
From the old posts about the restrictors, I will officially apologize to whoever said there were two of them.
They were in fact correct and the second one is in the turbo pressure port hose going to the Tee.

I built one out of a t pipe, a spring, a ball bearing, long bolt and nut and two vacume hose fittings. All were made out of aluminum. I keep steady boost @1.3 through the whole power band. I have never had a promlem. Except when I first installed it I had a boost leak some whare in the system. I put some teflon tape on the bolt and boost was restored. I have a friend who installe dit on his 1st gen Eclips and we kept up 1.6 bar, but I have not been able to max out the boost controller to see how high this home made controller will go.
This is just my expierence, and with a tight budget I have no problem with getting out of my car to adjust boost.

I too am wondering if I should buy these cheap ones off of ebay...it might be better if I buy the Hallman RX with the cockpit adjustment kit.
