i read a post some time back that anodizing the intercooler is the only way to paint it and it performes the same. any other kind of paint hurts. do a search you should find it somewhere in here

so you can anodize than paint?
what if the guy just painted straight over it? the reason I'm asking is because i dunno if the guy that sold me the piece painted it or a shop.. anyways.
just wondering if it would hurt performance.

If there's a heavy amount of paint and, as boostn said, high temp paint, it'll have an effect. Light coats, it shouldn't be too bad.

^^^what he said...painting an intercooler will fu*k up heat dissipation...I had mine anodized black a while ago...looks great & did not effect heat dissipation at all...

A light coating of spray paint won't make a noticeable difference since the cooling is done as air passes through the fins and the paint is only on the front surface. Ideally, anodizing is a much better method of coloring an intercooler though.

I'll third that. As long as the paint isn't really deep in there/caked on you'll be golden.
