Painting Intercooler Bad?

I recently purchased an aftermarket IC and interested on painting it black for stealth reason.

1) Will it lose it's cooling efficiency when I do that? or should I just leave it alone?

2) If I decide to paint it, any special paint you recommed to use?

I see powedered coated Intercoolers. Is it the same paint use on powder coating wheels?

Input would be appreciated.

Have it anodized.

Anodizing it would be your best bet, but you could paint it. I would lightly coat it though if you end up painting. I actually talked to a powdercoater recently and he said he has a new powdercoat to do intercooler that's made for rad's and i/c's. I'm hoping to get back to his shop soon and get more details and possibly get mine done.

I have that heat dispersant coating on my intake manifold; it works really well. If you do paint or powdercoat it make sure they're light coats only on the front surface and not down into the fins.

Yes, painting your ic is bad. Firstly, you'll never be able to get it done right, think of how many oils and materials are stuck to that from daily driving. You'll never be able to clean such a delicate surface and the paint will never stick right. If you can even get it clean and get it to stick right, the paint might hinder the actual function of the ic. I don't see why you would do this... show off your ic, don't make it stealth.

Definately go with anodizing if your going to paint it, I agree with everyone on that. I like having that intercooler showing, afterall it is an Evo, everyone already knows you have one

Very beautiful, dsevo.

Personally, I love showing off my amazing IC, thus I leave it the stock dull aluminum color. Anybody that knows anything about cars knows what that IC is for and automatically becomes jealous, even if they don't know jack about evos! Haha

I see your point, but everything will eventually be black or red on my car. When the person next to me hears a 700hp motor at full song they won't have to see the intercooler to know it's a beast anyway .
