Transmission/gear selector problem....

I don't know if anyone else has run into this problem but, I thought I would post to see if anyone could shed any light on my situation. I have an Evo IX MR six speed and I was getting off the highway pulled out of sixth and went to downshift but didn't have any gears... My gear shift just goes around in a circle there are no gear gates. I checked all the cables and all are connected and in good working order. My friend and I that took her apart think its either the gear selector from the paddle on top of the tranny where all the cables hook up I might have broke a shaft or something or my tranny just might have blown. Has this happened to anyone else or can anyone shed any light on this? If I have to rebuild the tans I was thinking of going with PPG gear sets and was kicking around the idea of converting to 5 speed. Any thoughts on this as well? Any info you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated thanks so much

Sounds like a shift fork. Regardless you might wanna get the trans rebuilt. But if i were you just convert it to a 5-speed.

Bump...I have this exact same problem. When I have someone sit in the car and move the stick the paddles and cables move on top of the transmission. I was in 6th gear on the highway and when I took it out of gear the car did not have a gear to go into. Cables are all connected and in the brackets which are tight. Any help is appreciated because this is my only car

I ran the 6spd for years but never had this problem. If you convert to five ensure you get a 4.11 or 4.0 final drive. The ratio in the 5 is so wacked stock it is unreal. Idk what mitsu was thinking. But i suggest rebuilding with the upgraded 6spd gears that they came out with last year. Its nearly comparable to the strength of a 5spd now

If all your cables move on the top of the transmission then it must be something inside the transmission.

Well you gotta think... if everything works up to the tranny, it must be in the tranny.
